Denton Howell left about the
midle of last week for the south-
western part of the state. His
lirst stop was at San Antonio; he
will go farther west later on.
J. W. Shayer, post station
agent at Abbott, has resigned
his position as such, on account
of declining health, and returned
to his home in Goliad county.
Our people regret exceedingly to
give Mr. Shover up, as he was
such an effective, polite, courte-
ous and accomodating station
agent and a nice gentleman be-
sides!
Dewey, the son of Charles
Weeden of Abbott has been quite
ill with pneumonia recently, and
M r. Weeden himself was sick
few days ago.
The family of H. C, Mattheus
was to have moved to Waco the
first of this week but Mr. Mat-
theus notified them Saturday
morning to postixme the change
for a while, supposedly on ac-
count of the meningitis situation.
Judge W. L. Stamper who was
to have left several days ago, did
not do so until Tuesday of this
week on account of inclement
weather.
Mrs. Pate, wife of our new
blacksmith who bought outH. H.
Webb, was reported critically ill
last week from a chronic trouble
supposed to be Bright's disease.
She has been and invalid for a
long while.
John King, Abbott,s new citi-
zen from the Menlow community
has opened up a livery business
here.
Some of the family of Mr. Uz-
zle who recently moved to Abbott
Howell of Abbott, and was raised
at Abbott.
J. E. Beavers and 8. Quoyle.of
Hillsboro, both old Abbottites,
were here one day last week.
Mrs. Jesse Jordan was .•eport-
ed very 111 about the middle of
last week. It was feared at first
that she had meningitis, as there
wese some striking symptoms
of the dreaded malady in the in-
ception of the illness; this fear
however was soon abated, and
no further alarm was felt about
the condition of the patient along
that line. Mrs. Jordan is a very
delicate woman anyway, and was
but a few years ago operated on j
for appendicitis.
The family of Mr. J. W. r^ott
lias been very unfortunate of late;
on account of sickness among
them; While there has been no
fatalities, the whole family, j
except one little boy lias been j
quite sick at the same time, some j
of them exceedingly ill. We are
pleased to report their condition
as being better at this time.
Jesse Jordan was called to
Wood County, the first part of
last week to attend the sickness
of his brother Joe J. Jordan who
was reported very ill with pneu-1
monia. Joe Jordan later died
from the effects of the illness.
Mrs. Marshall Page, whom we
reported in our last communica-
tion, os being ill at Lomeda, died
at 8 o’clock P.M. Monday, Janu-
ary 29th. Mrs. W. J. Spruce and
Miss Kate Page, sisters of her
husband, left Abbott the same
night at eleven o’clock to attend
her bed side, not’having heard
she was dead before leaving. They
