Football practice Is now in
full swing, with the boys work-
ing out in the morning and also
at nl|0.t under the lights. Some
new boys cut for the team this
week are Jerome Lednlcky, Paul
Sterling, Bryant Sparks. G. W.
Sanders. Jerry Ogles and Ed-
win Husak.
Carl Coffee will probably do
most of the punting and passing
this year, along with a big por-
tion of the bah carrying. Willis
Selman has been doing a good
job in handling the ball and
will help Coffee with the pass-
ing.
Larry Lednieky, if he gets
good blocking, will pick up lots
of yardage on the reverses. Lar-
ry also locks good as a pass re-
ceiver.
Henry Zapalac has been show-
ing up good in the backfleld
and will probably be a starter.
If Goldsmith or Snelson ever
get In Ihc clear they will be
hard to catch. Horn, Harris and
Whalen will also see lots of ser-
vice In tile backficld.
Dick Busby and Piggy Clark
should star at their end posi-
tions tills year. Busby will prob-
ably be the kick-off and extra
point booter. Donald Harris
lo ked good kicking goals for
the Junior High team last year
and could be used same at
making those extra points.
John Abe Webb and Johnny
Potter are running in the first
string guard slots at the pre-
sent time. Both boys are light
ul are scrappers. Bryant
Sparks and Vernon Kostohryz
could be the starting tackles.

What Is a Boy?
Between the innocence of!
babyhoed and the dignity ot'|
manhood we find a delightful |
creature called a boy. Boys
ccme in asserted sizes, weights,
and colors, but all boys have
the same creed: To enjoy every
second of every minute of every
hour cf every day and to pro-
test with noise (their only wea-
pon i when their last minute is
finished and the adult males
pack them eff to bed at night.
Eoys are found everywhere—
on top of, underneath, inside of,
climbing on, swinging from,
running around, or jumping to.
Mothers love them, little girls
hate them, older sisters and
brothers tolerate them, adults
Ignore them, and Heaven pro-
tects them. A boy is Truth with
dirt on its face. Beauty with a
cut on its finger, Wisdom with
bubble gum in its ear. and the
Hope of the future with a frog
in its pocket.
When you are fnisy a boy is
an inconsiderate, bothersome,
intruding jangle cf noise. When
you want him to make a good
impression, his brain turns to
jelly or else he becomes a sav-
age, sadistic, jungle creature
bent on destroying the world
and himself with it.
A boy is a composite—he ha?!
the appetite of a horse, the
digestion of a sword swallower,
the energy of a pocket-size
atomic bomb, the curiosity of a
cat, the lungs cf a dictator, the
imagination of a Paul Bunyan,
the shyness of a violet, the
audacity of a steel trap, the
enthusiasm cf a fire cracker,
and when he makes something
he has five thumbs on each
hand.
He likes ice cream, knives,
saws, Christmas, ccmic books,
the boy across the street, woods,
water (In Its natural habitat), is your captor, your jailer, your] the shattered pieces cf yojir
large animals, Dad, trains, Sat- b:s«, and your master—a freck-l hopes and dreams, h
urday mornings, and fire en- led-face, pint-size, eat chasing, them like new with tnefr two
glues. He Is not much for Bun-1 bundle of noise. But, when you I magic words— h,
clay school, company, schools,, come heme at night with only
books without pictures,
