This is about the best thing that’s happened to buying cars since
Chevrolet started building them—four entirely different kinds of
cars to choose from at your Chevrolet dealer’s One-Stop Shopping
Center. If you’re a luxury-lover, you’ll probably want to go no further
than those 13 plush new Jet-smooth ’63 Chevrolets. Want to give your
budget an even bigger break? Step over and see what’s new with those
10 nifty models of the ’63 Chevy II. Or maybe you've been eyeing
sports-car caps, in which case have a go at a sporty new '63 Corvair
(8 of them, including three snazzy bucket-seat Monzas and those big
Greenbrier Sports Wagons). There’s even something for the all-out
sports-car set—the daring Corvette Sting Ray. Picking a new car has
never been easier. (Unless you’d like to own them all!)

Prepare Now
For Sodding
Of Pasture
Several farmers in the West
area are beginning to change]
; from cotton farming to grain
and livestock farming. Tnis
means that many of these farm-
ers will be seeding or sodding
additional areas of permanent
pasture in the coming months.
Several factors must be con-
sidered if the planting operation
is to be a success.
Now is the time to start
planning and working on the
area that will be seeded or sodd-
(d to grass. Select the area that
is to be planted and the par-
ticular grass to be planted on
the area. If you have a question
or need additional information,
a local Soil Conservation Serv-
ice Technician will be happy to
go over the farm with you and
provide available information
on grasses suited to the area of
t;-,c farm. Some of the more
popular grasses planted in this
area are: Common Bermuda,
C astnl Bermuda, King Ranch
Bluestem, Texas Winter grass,
Side Oats Gramma, Indian, and
a native grass mixture. Each of
these- has a place and will be
profitable if put into its place
and properly used.
The most important operation
in sttccesfkul grass establish-
ment is the preparing of a good
seedbed according to Ed Jaska,
a McLennan County Soil Con-
servation District Cooperator,
who lias had a lot of experience
in establishing Bermuda grass.
He prefers to prepare the seed-
bed well in advance of the plant-
ing operation. In preparing the
seedbed, the soil is plowed with
a one-way plow or chisel plow
and then smoothed out by re-
plowing with the one-way or
tandem disc. This will give a
good seedbed such as would be
prepared for seeding small
grain. Now is the time to start
preparing your seedbed for next
spring by plowing the area to be
sodded. After plowing, the area
should be kept free of weeds by
tandeming. This should be done
with the idea in mind that Feb-
ruary is the month to start sod-
ding Bermuda grass. Jaska likes
to plant when the temperature
is cool and plenty of moisture is
available. In addition to a good
seedbed, it is a must to have
good fresh roots and fertilizer
applied in bands below the roots
at the time of planting.
Seedbed preparation for King
Ranch Bluestem and native
grasst s ould be a well pt e-
pared seedbed free of competing
vegetation. The seed bed should
| be prepared at lrast three mon-
I thprior to planting and per-
mitted to firm before planting.
If ground is loose at the time
of planting it should be firmed
with a cultipacker or heavy
implement, according to soil
Conservation service technicians
at the West Work Unit.
