Ernst will be stationed.

Tommy Plunkett of Hillsboro

Helton and girls. On Wednes-
day Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Miller
and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Strait
of Waco visited with Mrs. Hel-

To Compete In
Literary Events
Twelve students will compete
in six literary events in the
district Interscholastic League
contest on April 13 at Texas
Wesleyan College.
The contestants for ready
writing are Joyce Laubert, Kathy
Bezdek, and Pauline Dujka, al-
ternate.
Pat Jaska, Fred Brem and
Glenda Schroeder will enter the
slide rule contest.
Contestants in the spelling
contest are Evelyn Carpenter,
Frank Kubacak, and Laura Bal-
lew, alternate.
Poetry reading contestants are
Jo Ann Wedeking, and Dorothy
Pavlicek, alternate.
Shorthand entries are Doris
Forst and Mary Ann Fridel.
Becky McMorrough and Caro-
line Mears are entered in the
typing contest.
Teachers in charge of coach-
ing the contestants are Mrs.
Dorothy Nichols, spelling; Miss
Mary Dvoracek, ready writing;
Mrs. Laura J. Kline, slide rule;
Mrs. Peggy Clark, poetry read-
ing; and Mr. Alvin Hendricks,
shorthand and typing.

for a visit with Mr. and Mrs.

the funeral of his aunt, Mrs. J.

Abbott spent the Easter holidays
in Waco with their son and his

Skarpa, Larry and Kevin.
LOCAL ITEMS
Mr. Ed Janek recently receiv-
ed a letter from his son and
daughter-in-law, Capt. and Mrs.
Reynold Janek and family sta-
tioned with the U. S. Air Force
in Germany. They report that
spring is beginning to show
even though it remains cold.
Capt. Janek continues to travel
having been in Holland recently
and will be in England this
month. The Janek family has
planned a trip through East
Germany and Berlin. They re-
port that the entire family is
well.

Lillian McClain, owner of Lil’s
Beauty Shop in West, and Ma-
rie Buchness attended a work-
shop and hair styling show on
Sunday April 2 at Texas Hotel
in Fort Worth. Luncheon was
served.
Henry Polansky left March 29
by jet for Fort Leonard Wood,
Missouri, where he will under-
go eight weeks of basic train-
ing. Henry is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Adolf Polansky of Route 2,
West.

Mrs. James R. Holacek, med-
ical record secretary of Grant-
Buie Medical Center in Hills-
boro, attended a Texas Medical
Association meeting held Sun-
day, April 2 in Denton.
Mrs. Ron Eddins entered
Providence Hospital Saturday
and underwent major surgery
Monday. She is reported to be
doing fine at this time.

Miss Marticia Andrews who
has been at the West Rest Hav-
en for quite some time was re-
turned to her home Monday by
Aderhold Ambulance.
Mr. Larry Nemec left Friday,
March 31 for four and a half
months in the Army Reserve. He
is stationed at Fort Leonard
Wood, Mo. Mrs. Nemec will
make her home with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Busby
while he is gone.

West was taken to Providence
Hospital in Waco Wednesday
morning by Kotch Funeral
Home Ambulance for medical
treatment.
Donald Ray Odle, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ned Odle graduated
Friday, March 31 from the Waco
Police Academy. He will work
out of City Hall until June 1
when he will go on regular pa-
trol duty.

taken to Grant-Buie Hospital in
Hillsboro Sunday by Kotch Fu-
neral Home Ambulance.

Rest Haven to Providence Hos-
pital in Waco Tuesday morn-
ing by Kotch Funeral Home

Buie Hospital in Hillsboro by
Kotch Funeral Home Ambul-
ance for medical treatment,

Joe Lucian of Dallas was ad-
mitted to Baylor Hospital, Wed-
nesday of last week , where he
underwent medical treatment
and also x-rays and other tests.
He is reported to be improving
at this time.
Mrs. L. J. Vanek, 83 years of
age, underwent emergency sur-
gery Sunday, March 26, at
Grant-Buie Medical Center in
Hillsboro. Mrs. Vanek is report-
ed to be improving, but will be
confined to the hospital for at
least another week.

Mr. Eddie Kadlubar was taken
to the VA Hospital in Dallas,
Friday. He is reported to be
improving nicely.
Who’s New
Mr. and Mrs. William Berger,
Jr., of Tours are the proud par-
ents of a son born March 30,
at Grant-Buie Medical Center
in Hillsboro. The lad weighed 9
lbs., and has been named Kevin
John. He has one brother, Don-
nie. The mother is the former
Miss Dorene Thun. Grandpar-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. Emil
Thun of Elm Mott and Mrs. Hil-
da Berger of Tours. Great-
grandparents are Mrs. Anna
Thun of Waco, Mrs. Joe Pavli-
cek, Sr„ of Tours and Mrs. Rose
Hoelscher of Westphalia.
