Board receives auditor's
report; problems noted
—Sara Toe-
-'Express Editor-
The Panola College Board of
Trustees heard the 1991
financial audit report at its
January meeting.
The report, presented by Don
Bates, independent auditor of
Bates, Gosnell and Scheiffer,
showed Panola having some
money left over from last year.
According to Bates, the ex-
cess monies were brought in
from the tax base increase dur-
ing the year.
The tax increase brought in
more money than the board had
budgeted, explained Bates.
The report noted several
problem areas in bookkeeping
procedures that had been
pointed out in previous audits,
but hadn't been corrected.
The audit indicated that
these problems were not consid-
ered major.
After a brief discussion, the
report was accepted by the
board.
In other business, the board
referred a request to repair old
HVAC units instead of
replacing them to the energy
committee.
Panola President Dr. Gary
McDaniel indicated that by
placing the old HVAC units in
the Monk Science building, the
maintenance staff could repair
them.
"Repairing those units could
save Panola $30,000," said
McDaniel.
The board then chose to de-
lay discussing personnel mat-
ters and adjourned until its next
scheduled meeting.
