Keep us, O Lord, from pettiness; let us be
large in thought, in word, in deed.
Let us be done with faultfinding and leave off
self seeking.
May we put away all pretense and meet, each
other face to face, without self-pity and
without prejudice.
Teach us to put iuto action our better im-
pulses, straightforward, unafraid.
Let us take time for all things; make us to
grow calm, serene, gentle.
CIrant that we may rea'iae that it is the little
things that create .differences; that
in the big thiftgs'rif :life we are as one.
And may we strive to touch and to know the
great common woman’m heart of us all,
and, O Lord God, let us not forget to be
kind. , Mary Stuart.

In asking the aid of the public
in helping to prevent fires, Fire
Marshall ("J. L. Chastain sug
gests that in order to make
Carrollton a safe place in which
to live, fire h: zards should be re
moved for it is better to “clean
up” then to “ burn up,”
He lias prepared a few sug-
gestions and some of them may
be of interest to the general
public. They aie as follows;
A crack in your chimney is a
sure sign that you aie going to
move.
To see ii ftsperbaxger paper
over a flue hole indicate* an im-
pending Inga.
it is worse luck to look in a
• lark closet witfi a match than
to see the new moon over your
left sholder.
When the wind rtmana it is ex
tremely bad luck to burn trash
near the liguso.
If you smell gas nr gasoline
and look for it with a match, it
is probable that you rre about to
start on a long journey.
If yon have a pile of rubbish
In your cellar, it indicates n
crowd of people coming to your
house.
T he season for flipping cigar
and cigarette stubs on the awn
bigs downstairs has been closed
but the seNson for storing hot
ashes in a wooden box on the
back porch will soon be open.
The child v ho plays with
matches will gain experience
A quart of gasoline will cause
aji automobie to move throe
miles. A similar amount used in
household cleaning may cause
three pieces of auto fire appara-
tus nnd an ambulance to run 11
similar distance.
Cooks who do not desire to
burn their breakfast should re
train fr-un starting a fire with
kerosene.
