Mrs. J. Brown, who is sick at
the residence of her daughter, Mrs.
F. L. Williams, of Oakland, is
reported better.
Raymond E. Maddox of Orland
spent the Christmas holidays with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G.
Maddox of Richmond.
Miss Julia Christian received her
diploma and honorary certificate
from the Redding grammar school
on Dec. 17. She left on Dec. 22
to spend the holidays with her
father in Santa Barbara.
The monthly social of the Aerial
lodge social committee on Dec. 21
was largely atteuded and a highly
enjoyable affair. The social partook
somewhat of the Christmas air. A
nicely decorated tree was iu evidence
and a programme by the childreu
was a feature. Mrs. A. Dorsey had
charge of the programme. Music
was by Mrs. Leaner and J. Sands.
The socials will be continued next

Ninth Cavalrj to Sail for Manila
The Ninth cavalry, one of the best
regiments in the service, and which
recently received high praise from the
Secretary of War for the way in which
it has done patrol work on the Mexican
border, will reach the Presidio of San
Francisco December 29 aud will remain
here until January 5, when it will sail
for Manila. The Seventh cavalry, now
at the Presidio, and which is to relieve
the Ninth on border patrol duty, leaves
here December 21 for the border. The
Ninth cavalry is 1,000 men strong.
