Dear Hellcat Family,
As I write this column at the end of
19 October, Hurricane Sandy has just let her
I presence be known in the Northeast part of
our country. Given the ferocity of that storm
I and the damage it caused, my thoughts and
prayers are with the numerous Hellcats and
their families in that area. I hope that all of you made it through
with minimal impact to body and property.
By the time you read this column, our country will have
had an election and we are either poised for another four years
of President Obama, or Mitt Romney will soon be taking up
residence in the White House. Either way, let us hope and pray
that the citizens and government of the United States continue
to work together to improve the health of this great nation.
It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of
Robert Von Esch [B/66], Bob was the executive secretary of
the 12th Armored Division Association when I first became
active in that organization and he used his years of experience
as an attorney to help write and clarify the rules and by-laws.
I had the pleasure to meet with Bob at association events,
including several Western Chapter meetings, and I always
found him to be gracious, willing to provide assistance and
with a permanent smile affixed on his face. I want to offer the
condolences of the entire membership of the association to the
family and friends of my fellow Californian. We are grateful
for Bob’s years of service and this wonderful group is better
as a result of his efforts. He will be missed.
With the month of December we are reminded of the 12th
Armored Division’s entry into combat operations in 1944 and
the start of what would be more than five months of continuous
action against the Germans. The holiday season is the perfect
time to acknowledge the peace that was achieved as a result of
the sacrifices made by the members of the Division and time
for all of us to recommit our efforts to making this world a
better place for future generations. With that, I wish all of you
a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and best wishes for
a wonderful New Year.

Association
Website
www.12tharmoreddivisionassociation.us
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous member/
benefactor, the 12th Armored Division Association now
has its own website, dedicated to keeping its members
connected and updated on the latest association news.
Additionally, visitors to the site can learn the history
of both the 12th Armored Division WWII and the
association the veterans founded in 1946. All will have
access to photos and memoirs obtained directly from
the veterans, along with video and written tributes
submitted by the descendants, friends, and relatives of
the veterans themselves.
For ease of reference, information regarding all
national and regional events and other items of interest
will be posted on an events calendar, while an Interactive
Visitor Forum will allow members, as well as the
public, to post comments, ask questions about specific
veterans, and learn how to join and support our efforts
to promote the history of the men who served with the
12th Armored Division WWII.
Links are provided to give guidelines on how to
research the military history of loved ones and connect
with the 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum in
Abilene, TX.
As this endeavor is a “work in progress,” feel free
to send comments/suggestions to any member of the
website committee. Also forward any photos, videos,
or documents you would like added to the site. The
committee welcomes any and all volunteers who would
like to assist as the website improves and expands!!
