and their dates picnicked in Bas-
trop Monday afternoon, May 13.
The group left Georgetown at 1:30

dancing were enjoyed in the after-

Sophomore Class
> The Sophomore class is plan-
ning a picnic at the Bastrop State
Park, Bastrop, Saturday, May 13.
Boating, swimming, dancing and
eating will fill the hours from 1:00
p. m. to 11:00 p. m.
Transportation will be provided
by the private oars of- the chaper-
ons.

Phi Delta Thetas
Hold Initiations
Gordon McLeod, Phil Gray, and
Julian Pitts were received into
membership of the Texas Gamma
chapter of Phi Delta Theta fratern-
ity in an initiation held at the Phi
House Saturday night, May 11. Af-
ter the initiation the chapter mem-
bers enjoyed a sunrise breakfast
at the expense of the new initiates.
The fraternity announced the
pledging of T. K. Sanford, fresh-
man from Houston, Wednesday,
May 14.
Alpha Delta Pi’s Have
Special Initiations
Zeta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi
held special initiation services on
Tuesday, May 15, in the chapter
room at the Woman's Building.
The new initiates are Mary Vitula
Wilcox, Judy Denson and Joy Tor-
bett.
Sam Holmes Initiated
By Kappa Aphas
Kappa Alpha initiation services
for Sam Holmes were held last
Sunday afternoon, May 12, it was
announced this week by Byron
Peebles, president of the local
(XI) chapter.
After the services, the entire
chapter was entertained with a
supper at the Legion Cafe.
Sport Club
: The final meeting of the Sports
blub was held during the group's
picnic at Ban Gabriel Park May
14. •

Ministerial Society
The ministerial asoolation will
ihave, as its last meeting of the
year, a picnic in San Gabriel park,
Saturday evening. May 18.

Mr. and Mrs. John William Shaw
of Georgetown recently announced
the approaching marriage of their
daughter, Charlyne, to Jack Lo-
max of McAllen, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John T. Lomax of the same
city.
The marriage will be solemnized
Saturday evening, June 1, at 7
o’clock at the First Methodist
Church in Georgetown.
The bride-elect was graduated
from Southwestern last year and
at present is teaching In the Mc-
Allen Senior High School. Miss
Shaw is a member of the Delta
Delta Delta sorority.
Mr. Lomax attended Marian Mil-
itary Institute, Marian, Alabama,
and The University of Texas where
he was a member of the Phi Gam'
ma Delta fraternity.
After their marriage the young
couple will make their home in
McAllen.
W.A. Qubedeaux Jr.
Will Marry June 7
Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Smith have
announced the engagement and
approaching marriage of their
daughter Nadine to Walter Arnin
Quebedeaux • Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. A. Quebedeaux of Austin.
The wedding will take placp
June 7 in the parlors of the Ceto-
tral Christian Church.
Miss Smith is a graduate of Aus-
tin high school and The University
of Texas.
Mr. Quebedeaux is a graduate of
Southwestern University and will
receive his doctor’s degree from the
University of Texas in June. He
is a member of Tau Beta Phi, Sig-
ma Psi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, hon-
orary fraternities, and Alpha Phi
Omega, service fraternity. ,
Margarene Brockette
To Wed J. Cowan
In Late Summer
The Rev. and Mrs. C. T. Brock-
ette of Holland have announced
the engagement of their daughter,
Margarene, to James Cowan of
Belton. Miss Brockette attended
Southwestern from 1937 to 1939.
Mr. Cowan graduated from Abilene
Christian College and Is now foot-
ball coach in the Holland High
School.
Four children of the Rev. and
Mrs. Brockette have attended
Southwestern; Mary Ruth, their
youngest daughter, is now a fresh-
man, and a younger son has a few
mpre years before he is of college
age.
The wedding will be in the late
summer, and the bride’s father will
perform the ceremony in his own
church.
Franette Brockette, who was
graduated in 1937, Mary Ruth, and
Marlin Brockette, who finished in
1934, will be in the wedding party.
