The excitement of Christmas
fills the air in Corpus Christi as
special public annual events
begin.
The spectacular Christmas Tree
Forest at the Art Museum of
South Texas will open December
7. “The Year of the Child” will
be celebrated at the Art Commun-
ity Center beginning December 4.
Sunday, December 9, is the
date for the sympony’s presenta-
tion of Handel’s “Messiah”.
“Nutcracker” will hold the stage
on December 15 and 16. Both will
be at the Bayfront Plaza Audi-
torium.
“Peace on Earth — East Meets
West” is the theme for the
twentieth annual Christmas Tree
Forest and it promises to outdo
any previous ones in magnifi-
cence. The Oriental theme will be
representative of China, Japan,
Korea, the Philippines, Thailand
and even the Chinese influence in
Mexico.
Smoke will pour from the
nostrils of a 30-foot dragon.
Twelve banners, each 6 by 7 feet,
will show the Oriental fortune
calendar. Numerous gold and
black fans, torre bridges, Japa-
nese moon gardens, ponds and a
Korean gate from the 1968
HemisFair.
Corpus Christi’s Sister City,
Yokosuku, Japan, has sent deco-
rations for a tree and architectural
models of 40 oriental palaces, will
be displayed.
FROM THE TEXT BOOK
The Chinese influence in Mexi-
co will be told in a Story Tree.

hang from the high ceiling of a
large gallery.

Of the 42 decorated trees, 22
are being created by children and
will be shown as a special group.
The twenty by adults, individuals
or groups, will be different from
any shown before.
This beautiful and significant
show is free, with only a small
donation requested. It runs from
December 7 through December
23, Mondays included. The Art
Museum of South Texas is at the
north end of Shoreline Drive,
“under the Harbor Bridge.”
Across the street is the city’s
new Bayfront Plaza Auditorium.
Here at 4 p.m. on Sunday,
December 9, the Corpus Christi
Symphony and the Corpus Christi
Chorale, with visiting soloists, will
perform the traditional Christmas
oratorio “Messiah” by Handel.

Tschaikovsky’s “Nutcracker”
ballet is now a must for Christmas
in many cities of America.

will travel to Corpus Christi under
the sponsorship of the Corpus
Christi Ballet Theatre. They will
bring their own orchestra and 71
dancers, new scenery and cos-
tumes.
Starr Danias will again dance
the Sugar Plum Fairy and Robert
Weiss, the Prince. Twenty-two
local dancers will join the produc-
tion.
Performances will be at 8 p.m.,
THE BIBLE
by Beth Layton
Key Thought:.....................The Personality Of The Holy Spirit.
Mentioning of the word, Holy Spirit, creates awe with some people,
even some Christians. Shall we think and study God’s word on the
functioning of the Holy Spirit. It’s one thing to do or believe a thing,
theoretically, but indeed it’s quite another thing to actually, by
experience, do it. Think, what elements constitute a personality.
Knowledge (thought), feeling (emotion), will, (determination). Any being
who knows and feels and wills is a person whether he has a body or not.
If our earthly life ends before the Lord’s return, we will cease to have
bodies for the time being. We will be absent from the body and at home
with the Lord (II Cor. 5:8), but we will not cease to be a person with
Christ. We repeat, the Bible ascribes these same qualities to the Holy
Spirit. The promise again, Christ announced His coming departure anu
stated, “I will pray the Father and He shall give you another Comforter,
that He may abide with you forever.” (Note the forever). The world
cannot accept Him, but you know Him, for He lives with and will be in
you. (When Christ departs). Paul said in Romans 15:30, “I believe you
brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake and for the love of the Spirit
that you strive together with me in your prayers, for me.” (Note, please,
in the verse the five words, “the love of the Spirit”). Now read John
14:26. “But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in My name, He shall teach you aii things and bring to your
remembrance all that I have said unto you.” Christ, through John
speaks/calls the Holy 6pint, Ht, (personal pronoun) and calls Him a
Teacher, Who? The Holy Spirit is ever ready to teach us. How? Wc pray
without ceasing, that is, we have kept our minds and hearts in an
attitude of prayer which is the essence that radiates from a Christian’s
mind and heart. The Holy Spirit, in a sense, generates and transmits
spiritual thoughts into the channels of our seeking thoughts. Now in the
realm of reasoning, God gave us that privilege by creating man and
endowing him with an independent mind, giving him all the guidelines in
the scriptures to live for righteousness. Luke and Paul set the pace for
Christians reasoning together.
To be continued on the Holy Spirit next edition.
December 15, and 2 p.m.,
December 16. For the evening
performance, all seats are reserv-
ed, priced $10, $8, $7, $6, and $5.
For the matinee, reserved seats
are $8, but most of the seats will
be unreserved at $3 for children,
$5 for adults.
Tickets are on sale at Kaleidos-
cope, at Alameda and Everhart,
or by mail through the Corpus
Christi Ballet Theatre, 5610 Ever-
hart, Corpus Christi, 78411.
Let none of these events over-
shadow the show at the Art
Community Center on Park Street
in South Bluff Park. Eight groups
of local artists will display works
in oils and acrylics, watercolors,
sculpture, fibers and photographs
depicting the “Year of the
Child”.
This show will open December
4 and run through December 31
— but not on Mondays. Week-
days, the museum is open from 10
to 4, Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. There
is no charge but small donations
will be gratefully appreciated.
So mark your calendars. Corpus
Christi offers much at Christmas
time.
