MARCH 20, 1980
SOUTH JETTY
PACE 5
watering HOLE
Monday: the winds of March
blew cold, but Irish hearts stayed
warm. The wearing of the green,
a pinch for the forgetful, and
“wee” (double shots) of Irish
whiskey were called for by
islanders with Irish blood . . .or
Irish hearts. Eleanor, a petite lady
who is 100% Irish, loaned a green
shamrock pin to Christie to ward
off would-be pinching fingers on
St. Patrick’s Day. Two island
“boys” celebrated their birthdays
in true Irish fashion. J.W. and
“Hunter” Harry downed a brew
or two at the B—B Monday morn
in honor of birthdays and the land
of Eire. At Boxcar’s, Virtuous Joe
began an early start with the
tipping of Irish merriment. Ru-
mors of shenanigans and funny
green happenings were reported
by Sweet Mary . . .“Mayhaps”
the leprechauns were at work.
Perhaps next year the Irish of the
island can join together and bring
in the wearing of the green in
proper fashion. . . with a
three-day Irish bash . . .guaran-
teed to keep the wee tricksters
from the land of Eire merry.
The island’s first bi-sexual
Wet T-shirt contest was held
Sunday at the Spaghetti Works.
Sweet Mary was enlisted to help
with promo and judging duties for
the event. While driving the
mobile markee around the island,,
she made a stop at Virtuous Joe’s
Bloody Mary Sunday morn party
with the flashing arrow (advertis-
ing wet bodies) pointing to
islanders gathered at Joe’s to cure
their Saturday night blues with
the help of Vodka, Fahitas and
Huevos Rancheros. As her duties
as judge, Sweet Mary made a trial
run down the giant slide . .
.trying out the water before the
contestants made the plunge.
Jim, owner and proprietor of
the Sail Club was handy with a
cocktail tray Friday evening . . .
he showed superb ability with
balancing drinks on the round
tray: Watch out girls, your
cocktail waitress jobs may be in
danger.
Wednesday eve locals were
treated to a preview of Wong’s
culinery mastery at a grand
opening party at Custards. Many
islanders partook of the superb
array of Chinese dishes and an
unending supply of cold brew.
Wong and his wife are delightful
people, a welcome addition to the
island. Wong has more than
culinery ability. . . he can also
execute gymnastic style flips.
Boxcar’s has a new look . .
. . .bright and early one morn
Melissa, Johnny, and Leonard got
busy with hammers and saws and
remodeled the bar . . .it now
stretches across the whole room.
Work finished, the busy trio
celebrated with some well deserv-
ed libations.
It has been rumored that a well
known vocalist and guitar picker
with the initials of J.B. has an

affinity towards red satin shorts

Sinbad, one of the colorful
parrots at the Jolly Roger let his
hunger carry him a bite too far
one day: he went on an eating
spree and grawed right through
his perch and fell with a thud and
a squawk to the floor of his cage .
. .result: only his ruffled feathers
and hurt feelings.
Hop, a master of fishing,
cooking chowders, and the main-
stay behind the B—B received a
full dose of spring break mania
last week at the B—B. He pulled
a double shift . . .putting out a
multitude of pizzas and ended up
with sore fingers from popping
cases of cold brew . . .and weary
feet from long hours behind the
bar. A performance above and
beyond the call of bartending
duties for the numero uno
gentleman and fisherman of the
island.
