Coaches make selection
Four Bears picked for all-district team
H> MORRIS AI.DRIlHiK
District 12AAA coaches
announced their all district
basketball team List Tues
day. The Bastrop Bears
placed four players on the
team;freshman Roger Hen
derson and Seniors James
Warren, Max Champie and
Bonnie Hibbs.
Henderson was the only
Bear named to the first
team, while Warren, Cham-
pie and Hibbs received
honorable mention.
Henderson led the Bears
most of the season averaging
18 points and 14 rebounds
per game. The 6-foot 4-inch
Freshman had more than 15
games with 20 points or
more and two thirty-point
games.
The Bears Seniors also
contributed greatly to the
team's fourth place finish in
their first year in district
12AAA competition.
Coach Gurka said that
Champie was more of a team
player than most. He wasn't
as big an individual stand-
out, but because of his team
play, he contributed just as
much.
Hibbs was undoubtedly
the Bear's best clutch
shooter, scoring at times
when the team really needed
the points. He also opened
up the opponents defense
with his outside shooting.
Gurka stated that Warren
played better over all this
year than in the past years
because of his shooting and
team play. Warren averaged
12 points per game during
the season and 14 points in
district competition.
Coach Gurka said that he
was proud of the team
because it never gave up no
matter what the score was
and especially in the latter
part of the district season
when the team didn't have
anything to gain.
