CHRISTMAS FUN
Shopping Continued Till a Late
Hour
GENERAL CLOSING TODAY
Mail Carriers Will Make No
Route Deliveries Today-Thc
Left Handera.
The fact that th sklea wer lowering
and that occasional showers served to
dampen the clothes and biff bundles of
the Christmas shopper caused no diminu-
tion in the ardor with which preparation
for this clad Christmas Day proceeded In
Houston. Until a late hour last night
the stores were crowded with the last
of the shoppers. In spite of the weather
the small boy who has been earing his
mall change wherewith to purchase fire-
works waa early on the scene and the
skies were starred with the red blue
and rreen of the Roman cin4.es while
the w hissing skyrockets searched the
clouds for signs of the approach of Santa
Claus.
The day Itself promises to be as gen
e rally observed as in the happy past.
There will be numerous dinners-and fam-
ily gatherings while the number of vis-
itors in th city probably exceeds that
of any Christmas season. The stores will
close and permit the tired clerks to en-
Joy the day which has occasioned them
so much extra service !n meeting the
demands of the public. T.h.e city depart-
ments will alt clone for the dny and the
employes will enjoy the holiday to th
fullest. The garbage department will
make one round In the hjiness district
and this will constitute ail the work that
will be performed by 'the city depart-
ments. The banks will close for the day. the
courts will suspend anil the pout of flee
will be open only bftw.n the hours of
9 and 10:ao o'clock thin morning. All of
the departments will be on at that time
for the dixpatch of busin-pii. The mail
carriers will make no deliveries on thlr
routes and any delayed (.'hnstmaa park-
sees will not reach thou for whom thy
ar Intended before tomorrow or the day
after as there Is a mountain of work
ahead of the carriers.
I EFT HAN.jF.RS.
According to a time-honored custom th
Left Handed Fishing club will observe
Christmas with an elaborate celebration
and an Immense Chrhumas tree loaded
with nresents for their friends and guests.
For this purpose they have secured the
ground floor of the new Huker building
en San Jacinto street between Congress
and Franklin. whre the tree will be
located and where the fun will commence
at 6 o'clock this evening and continue
fast and furious from that on.
The theme that the left Ttandera will
csrrv out this Chrlntma- Is not dlvulg-d
in advanr. but from th fact that Sir.
L. E. Miller the )ertrician has bn
in rharjre of the room for the past fw
days with a small army of electriral
workers. It Is safe to conclude that the
manner in whlrh the Jeft Handera will
receive their guests will be extremely
startling but on this account none th
less cordial.
As hrtcts the lft Handera are noted
or their hospitality and their Christ-
mas frolics are events nver to be for-
gotten by those fortunate enough to par-
ticipate. OAffTORXA.
