Senator. Bailey Fancies the
Thoroughbreds Now.
Says the New Tork Telegraph: On of
the most recent converts to the thorough-
bred from among the light harness horse
fanciers is United States Senator Bailey
of Texas and the prediction is freely
made that his colors will be seen on the
Metropolitan tracks next season and
that be will campaign an extensive stable
of runners.
He begun tn a small way this sessnn
with an Interest In a few horses now
racing on the Northern circuit. They are
trained by W. J. Young. In whose name
they run. and one of irn'm. Maggie
Mackey .has been a frequent winner.
With these horses as a nucleus of a
racing stable It wss said on good suthor-
Ity yesterday that Senator Bailey con-
templates Increasing his thoroughbred 'n-
terests and thnt he would race on the
metropolitan tracks.
Senntor Bslley hns for n number of
years been a prominent factor in the trot-
ting horse world lie owns an extensive
breeding farm with the good sire Prodlg.il
at the heed of the stud. He has also
campaigned a stable of trotters. Charles
Marvin one of the foremost trainers of
trotters. Is In the employ of Mr. Bailey
and will race a few horses for him
through the grand clrcotnhts sea son.
Senator Bailey was afone time the
leading stockholder In the Kentucky
Trotting Horse Breeders' association st
Lexington and one of its directors. Nis
stock was sold last wlntr. and In other
ways It has been made apparent that
there Wat a waning of Interest In the
light harness horses.
1-ait spring st Banning Senator Ballcy
was a freuuent racegoer and from the
Interest he took ln the sport. It was then
predicted that re would become a con-
vert. This prediction ulready partly
verified now promises to prove true In
Its entirety.
S-nntor Ballcv Is as sood a sportsman
as he Is a etntesmsn. and his advent Into
the world of thoroughbred sport will lie
welcomed.
