I was present at a very Interesting
ceremony this week-th layloc of th
comer stnn of the ConJInental hall
wall h Is to Ix built by th .National il-
ty of th UauKhlers of the American
Havolutlon This sor lety was organised
la I) bj throe women. Miss Wiuitilng-
ton lof th same family as General
Washlagtoai Miss Desna and Mrs. Wal-
worth. In this city for the nurpose of
Jucpinc allv tb memory of tin men
who fought In th American revolution
of th woman who worked for It and tb
plrlt which prompted both. Thar ar
aow mor than .ua member through-
out th t'Bltod States and they ar build-
ing th Continental hall wher they pro-
pose to have a meet tug plac aa well a
a ort of museum. In which to pi sssrv
rUca of colonial day and th record of
th revolutionary war. One of tbo best
feature of the aortty. in my way of
thinking. 1 that It brings the women of
all parts of our country togtbr by th
same tntereets. 1 went to the hall where
the oonveotlon la taring held thie week
and met another lady who sdld to me:
"1 am trylnjr to find th delegate from
Connecticut." I repnd: "And I am
trying to find th dlgate from
Texas. Connecticut and Texaa meetlnc
together In the same ball with th same
purpose th same hone the gam fears
don't you see It will do good?
But I have forgotten th corner atou.
At t:3i p. m. about people were gath-
ered on the epot wher th Continental
hall I to he built. A big stand draped
all over with Unltd 8tutes flnas faced
rows after rows of benches with a crowd
on tli outside of the railing that pro-
tected thee seats. Th big stand was
llllrd by th president of the Daughters
of the American Revolution. Mrs. Kalr-
banka ef ladtana. the general officers of
the society and a number of diatltaxuished
sweats Following th line of railing that
lncosed th pao In front were pole
about ta foot apart each healing a curd
on which was printed the name of a
Unite and upholding a 1'nited Btates flag
that waved most enthusiastically In the
tierce wind that was blowing.
On of tli moat ptstoreaqu features of
th affair waa a company of "minut
mew." who were diessti In the old colo-
nial oalforaui and who came marching
In to th tune of "Yankee Doodle." played
oa a fife. Then there were Knights Tem-
plar In their handsome regalia and the
beautiful gowns of the women all making
a very sinking picture.
On a stand before which Mrs. Fair-
banks stood was an oblona; cheat made
of copper and. after the singing of
"America.' aa opening prayer by Rev.
Rdward Everett Hale the addreaa of the
aujrhtera of the American Kevolutla

The prise for the best drawing for April
goes to Mattle Jones of Mount Pleasant.
It Is very fine and shows excellent talent.
It Is really better than you would Judg
from th picture on the page bcaa It
was dona with pen and Ink. aad very
stroke of th pen told. Drawing with a
peactl Is mocn easier because If yoa
mas a false stroke you can eras H and
try again but with pen and Ink a stroke
one made has to stay. We have had
tun good work sent In but this Is th
best.
