bring results.
The children observe this festival as gen-
erally ss do ths older ones. The Jack-o'-lantern
Is one of the fsvorltes with the lit-
tle folk and a belated traveler of unsteady
gait wending his wsy homeward la liable
to a surprise at an comer with a staring
face of clownish sspect. with flaming mouth
and eyes will present Itself. He thinks net
of Halloween this wsj-farer but Is sure
that ghosts and goblins have pursued him
and he takes to his heels.
The tick-tack goes sbroad this night. The
tick-tack Is a childish sport that worries
the nervous neighbor snd the quiet home-
like couple sitting at books In the privacy
of (he best room are disturbed by the In-
cessant "tick tack tick tack." that sounds
st the outer door. At first It Is not given
attention but so continual la Its Interrupting
sound that they go to Investigate only to
see the dlsappearthgs forms of the young-
sters who have played the Joke.
Children will not be restrained on this
night They attire themselves In Mardl Oras
and carnival clothes hide their faces behind
masks of hideous design nnd In long flow-
ing robes they romp snd play upon the
streets visit their neighbors aad get a piece
of cake as an entertainment or a piece of
fruit from another. It is sll a pleasant
pastime no one takes offense st the pranks
of the children and It lasts for one evening
