TJp $2 Bale in Hew Orleans.
(Aneciilid Freu Report.)
NEW ORLEANS. October 20 The cold
wave sew aweeping through the South put the
price of cotton np almost two dollars a bale
soon after the market opened this morning. It
waa evident that many of the buying orders
received by local brokers had accumulated over
Sunday. On the first call there was a rush to
buy. and amid more excitement than the mar-
ket has seen for months prices mounted awiftly.
The opening was irregular the trading
months snowing a gain of 44 to 48 points
over Saturday's close. They soon went to a
level SO to 43 points up before profit taking
by longs became heavy enough to cause a re-
action. Thia wild rise brought out selling or-
ders for both accounts and the market reacted
13 to IS pointa. The downward movement
wa not well maintained as the detailed reports
from the weather bureau made the situation
over the belt look worse than did the weather
map. Fear that great damage would result to
the cotton crop in the Atlantics as the cold
wave worka eastward caosed renewed buying
and pot price up to about the highest levels
again.

(Associated Press Report.)
CHICAGO October JO. Reporta from It-
dia that crops had failed had much to do today
with a bulge In pricea of wheat. Th market
closed steady at an advance of 44 to Tt net.
Corn wound up with a gain of 4a to and

prsvviaion wa irregular varying from Sc de-

growth there had hardly begun. N'everthelesa
final quotations were within H H of the top
figure of the session.
Corn sympathised with wheat. Rotas
weather anj country buying were of conaidera-
ble assiatance to the hulls. In addition tb
visible supply ahowod a big drop.
Oats rallied on account of the strength In
other grain. The bulge however brougnt oat
manv sales on resting orders.
Although provisions displayed some firmnes
because of active investment In lard mock ef
the advance wat afterward lost. Offerings by
holder were liberal on all swells.
