two former employes today. The oc-
casion waa. the former treasurer a final
leavataJcIng of the department force who
have toiled with him In the service ot
the State for the last five years. The
transfer of the funds securities a ud bonds
of tha vaults has been completed and
the- wlndup of the laborious work was
ignallaed by a little love feast partici-
pated la by ail concerned.
The presentation speech was made by
Joseph M. Edwards who succeeds Mr.
.Sparks as head of the department. Mr.
Sparks' response was appropriate but
brief. The retiring treasurer showed

the fact that the first of ths month kept
many merchants too busy with their local
trade to give attention to the proposed
trade' excursion to Anahuac and WaTlls-
vilte which will be held April 18 a meet-
ing of the general arrangements commit-
tee held last night brquglt. out a large
attendance. . Today Chairman George
Cohen of tha committee stated that al-
ready more than sixty firms of the city
hava signed up for this trip and that he
.expects fully 100 t radial an tbe trip.
Two launches will be tued for the ex-
cursion and a good marine band will be
taken along also refreshments for tha ex-
cursionists. A neat pennant with the
wording "191 J Greeting From Galveston"
has been prepared and a number of thess
will be taken to- give to the people of the
two places mentioned for use aa souvenirs.

ing tha granting of a charter for the-Exporter
Warebbuse oompany with a cap-
ital atock of Sl&.ooa comes the announce-
ment that K. Tltemann. Co. of Fort
Worth will this year use tha warehouse
for concentration of all 'their purchasers.
It Is alsa understood her that two other
large Texas cotton Arms will concentrate
their cotton m Gdlveston during the com-
ing seasons. The Tldemann company con-
templates handling 100000 bales ef cotton
before next March.
The new warehouse wilt be erected on
property of the Galveston Houston And
Henderson between Market and Posaofflce
and Thirty-third and Thirty-fifth streets
thus occupying two block.
Liquor Cases Bslnd Heard.
GALVESTON Texas April 1 During
this afternoon two mora State witnesses
testified in the forty-seven liquor oases
and Notary Goad let took their depositions.
These wltnestfes it is stated will testi-
fy in about thirty of tbe cases. Two other
witnesses have already given their depo-
sitions in the entire .number of oases
and Ranger Captain Billy 8mith has testi-
fied in about a dosen of the cases. The
defense witnesses will begin - their depo-
sitions Saturday and it 1 probable that
tha entire work will not be concluded by
the notary before two more weeks
