Men Like These Met Death at Liege
German Cavalry Descending Mountain
Army experta have called tha German cavalry tha beat trained in tha
world. Certainly tha kalaer's mounted troopa are a aplendid body of men and
ought to give a good account of themaelvee ahould they penetrate into France.
The photo ehowa a group of German cavalryman coming down an almost
perpendicular mountain aide. They belong to the famous Uhlan regiments
two ragimenta of which were annihilated In thelr bold daah into Liege which
Berlin officially referred to aa an example of "unique heroiem."

armistice in order that they mlgRt collect
their wounded according to another re
port. An official communication Issued
at Paris states that the troops in the
fortress at Liege being sufficient for the'
defense of the town an active division
mobilised at Liege has Joined the army In
the field.
English military critics In London pa-
pers comment on the failure of the tactics
of the German Infantry exhibited In their
frontal attacks on the Liege forts In
which they were repulsed. It was con-
tended that the Germans learned nothing
from recent wags and still adhere to
methods adopted in the Franco-German
war.
The authorities here have taken the
greatest precautions to prevent the leak-
age of information as to military and
naval movementa but Indications were
seen In the commandeering of large
liners and the stoppsge of the cross
channel passenger traffic that a British
expeditionary force probably would soon
depart.
President Polncare gave out the newa
In his message to King Albert of Spain
that French troops were "shedding their
Mood with the Belglana oa the battle-
field today."
