SHIXEB Texas. Sept 23 The Shiner
compress eitr wharf and bonded ware-
house with about 4000 balsa of cotton
were completely destroyed by fire at 2:30
a. m. Thursday. Within SO minutes after
the alarm was sooaded the entire plant
was enveloped in flames. About 700 bales
of cotton stored oa a detached platform
were saved by tho good work of tho in
department and tho excellent water prcs-
rare o the dty water plant
Twelve -cars of cotton which vera
loaded and oa a aiding were saved by
as engine that was sent from. Yoakum.
About 1200 bates of cotton stored ia the
bonded warehouse by farmers were de-
stroyed. 'These wore mostly covered by
insurants. The government lost several
hundred bales of Enters.
The total loss is estimated at $730000.
Tbe compress was completely rebuilt this
rr and was considered one of the best
this section of tho State. Tbe loss
on the phut alone will run between
$73000 and $100000. The bulk of the
loss is covered by Insurance. Tho loss
on cotton not insured is estimated at
