(Port-Dispatch Special.)
AUSTIN Texas Oct. 26. The
West Texas Methodist conference on
Saturday granted Austin six months
time in which to raise $75000 and se-
cure a (30000 site for the location
here of its proposed quarter million
dollar hospital The conference will
close Sunday with the assignment of
pastors.
The conference Saturday passed
resolutions declaring the need for a
more aggressive evangelistic cam-
paign and deploring the toleration of
worldliness.
"Petting parties must be driven oat
of society" declared the resolution.
"Vice and crime are rampant. Mod-
ern dancing should be handled in no
mincing terms" the resolution con-
demned mixed bathing parties.

of the church to supply tbem with

RULING IS MADE
'ON BANK DEBTS
AUSTIN Texas Oct 26. The debt
of sn individual to a bank not yet
due when the bank is closed may not
be nsed by the bank as setoff
against the due demand of that indi-
viftaal for what the bank may owe
Mm unless at the time of closing of
the bank the individual is insolvent
the attorney general ruled in an opin-
ion to the banking commissioner Sat-
urday. The opinion held that the rights of
creditors against the bank and of the
bank itself are fixed at the time of
closing the bank and that nothing is
lost or rained in the way of rights lia-
' bilities or remedies to which either
is entitled at that time.
The law affecting set-off recognises
the injustice of requiring a customer
to pay his debt in full to the bank
' when It was owing him and unable to
respond; and of allowing a customer
. to collect his claim or any dividends
from the bank when indebted to it
and because of Insolvency unable to
pay it i

The Jolly Jolliers' presentation
Sunday afternoon of "A Race for a
Million" st the Cosy theater went
over with a bang. All of the mem-
bers of Verne Phelp's company hav
good parts in the current bill and
all showed that considerable time had
been spent on their lines.
The story deals with a yung man
who is after a million dollars that
has been left to him by a distant
relative. The stipulation is that he
beats another man to a certain town
and claims the fortune first As
luck has it he is stranded in a typical
"tank" Vwn with the country depot
and the country station agent who is
also the chief dignitary of the town.

A Fine Show
It is easy to understand the ap-
peal that TJniversal'a production
'The Hunchback of Notre Dame.'1
has to women because it has prob-
ably the most thrilling of all ro-
mances interwoven throughout its
stirring action. In each city where
it has been presented the matinee
business hss been s revelation and a
careful check np among patrons of
the fair sex proved that it was be-

theme of the great Victor Hugo clas-

ALTO Texas Oct 25. Judge
Frank Huston may still be declaimed
the groat matrimonial sooth a&jcfbf
East Texas. He has been justice of
toe peace in Nacogdoches county
precinct No. 1. lor nine Tears.
During that time be has joined
more than 600 couples in the holy
bonds. Out of this number only five
couples have been involved in divorce
proceedings one of Jhese being col-
ored. This record- speaks well for
the adhesive virtues of bis ministra-
tions. Justice Huston haa been nominated
for the next term of his office and
hopes to round out a thousand
"entices" by the end of his incum
bency.
Although it may be thought that
his past deeds might weigh heavily
upon the judge's mind he seems to
bear the responsibility of the mischief
be may hsve caused with surprising
eqnsnimity.
