the mechanical men who in tb stage
play "B. U. R." turned on and eon-

5 i the antotaobile baa taken from man
his world-old heritage of power over
t Material things. In a recent contest
' a trained athlete pitted hia strength
- and endurance against the atamina of
' a motor car and lost For 120
hoars he drote the car constantly at
" the conclusion of which he had to be
' carried from the car which was run-
' Bint aa quietly and smoothly as when
It started.
. ' The test waa made by the De Line
Automobile company Oldsmobile dis-
" tributors at St. Louis Mo. A cowboy
- "daredevil" W. O. Seeley. was hand-
cuffed to the ateerinf wheel of an
Oldsmobile and the hood of the car
officially sealed. For fiye days and
" Bifhop Seeley drove the car at speeds
of from one to 69 miles an hour mak-
j ins a total of 8193 miles during the
. . run on an average of 25.6 miles and
hour.
At no time did the car come to a
complete half. When blocked by traf-.
fic and while taking gasoline and oil
the car was driven backward and for-
ward a few feet to keep it constantly
. in motion. The lsst few miles of the
y ' test were made at an average speed
of two miles an hour in high gear
.(- while the driver was propped in his
seat semi-conscious and a trained
nurse at his side. At all times during
the 120 hours the car and driver were
under the observation of newspaper
representatives police or automobile
mea
; The car used was a new 1925 Olds-
mobile Six touring that had been run
v only 500 miles not enough to thor-
oughly break it in. From the start
' 'it was driven at all speeds of from
one to ti!t miles an hour in fact given
much harder usage than the average
owner would subject it to.
During the test 155 gallons of gaso-
line were consumed or an average of
V' 20 3-4 miles to the gallon. This is
considered high in view of the fact
that during many hours of the run the
engine whs practically idling while
the car was being driven backward
? and forward where stops would ordi-
narily have been made.
Some idea of the work imposed on
the Oldsmobile can be had from the
following figures:
During the 3193 miles each wheel
' made a complete revolution 1.610000
times. The engine crank shaft made
8.211000 revolutions on its bearings.
There were 4105500 explosions in
each of the six cylinders or 24.633000
' explosions or power impulses in the
i engine during the trip. Each piston
traveled up and down 6.500375 feet
for the 31!3 miles traveled or a total
of 7397 miles of piston travel in the
six cylinders during the run.

tunity of viewing almost every auto

"QUALITY car lovere will find a newS)'
delight in the petit salon to De
held here this week and judging from
the extensive arrangements being
made for the affair it will assnme all
the attractive proportions of an elab-
orate society function.
The salon is to be presented by the
Ford Motor company for a special
showing of Lincoln motor cars and
will be held in the ballroom of the
Rice hotel Thursday Friday and Sat-
urday of this week.
settincs of unusual beauty will he
arranged for the care and visitors will
find themselves in most luxurious
surroundings. Music by a leading or-
chestra will add to the pleasing effec
tiveness of the salon. .
Guests will have an opportunity of
becoming fully acquainted with the
high quality of the Lincoln car and of
inspecting the distinctive body types.
Visitors also will have an opportu
nity of studying the Lincoln motor.
for a special cutaway motor will oe
on display so that inspection of all
working parte may be made. It is
beautifully mounted on a nickeled
frame with mirror underneath and all
brilliantly lighted.
Another feature will be the show-
inr of a standard Lincoln 136-inch
wheelbase chassis upon which all body
types are mounted. Ibis cnassis oi
Doliahed steel with many parts copper
plated and equipped with wire wheels
presents an intimate picture of the
exacting details carried out in Lon-
coln construction.
Those interested in details of fine
coach work will be attracted by a Lin-
coln body in white which will form
another exhibit permitting full in-
spection of the body construction.
The famous Johannson gauges the
standard precision measurement for
the world also will be featured at the
salon illustrative of the extreme pre-
cision carried out in building Lincoln
cars.
No effort is being spared by the
Ford Motor company to make this dis-
lay not only one of interest to all
overs of fine things particularly in
the automotive world but to have all
details in keeping with the character
of the car. Holding a display of
motor cars in the ballroom on the
second floor presented numerous dif-
ficulties to be surmounted. A huge
ramp or inclined track haa been built
by Ae Ford orgaaiaatioa and la ao
designed that it may be assembled and
taken apart readily. This ramp wtl
be nlaced on the Teiin avenue aid
of the Rice after midnight on the 26th
Wednesday nlgnt and the display cars
will be driven up to the balcony undar
their own power.
The salon will open oa Thanksgiv-
ing morning and will be open every
day from 10 o'clock in the moraine
until 10:30 o'clock at night closing
Saturday night
Because no motor cars have ever
been exhibited before in the ballroom
of the Rice and this being an extraor-
dinary showing of Lincoln cars
coupled with the limited number of
days the salon ia tp he held indicates
that it will be a most popular place
from the opening day until the closing
hour.

Declares Flint
Is Its Own Best
Car Salesman
"1 have sold cars for years" de-
clared James E. Manierre general
manager of the Conant Paggi Flint
company Flint distributors the other
day "but the Flint Six is the first car
I've ever bandied that is really its own
best salesman!
"I don't mean that the majority of
customers walk right into our show
rooms take one look at a Flint and
then sign a purchase order. Tbey all
ask questions. Some want to learn
in great detail the advantages of all
the different features and why the
Flint has certain types of units.
Most of them make a very careful
comparative study of the Flint in re-
lation to otbef cars in its price class.
After that some deside to buy it
quickly often right then and there.
Othera take a longer time. But a
: t
point I am making ia that from the
time a prospect first becomes Inter-
ested in a Flint until he makes bis
purchase decision a salesman doesn't
have to talk his head off in persuad
ing the prospect that the Flint ia a
good value. Furthermore be doesn't
have to do a lot of conversational
sidestepping and keep emphasising
certain features of the car for fear
that the prospect will inquire too
closely into others.
"As I impeess upon my salesmen
there isn't sny inquiry about the Flint
that any one can ask that can not be
answered fully and honestly without
wrecking the chances of a sale. There
isn't a sii.gle thing about the car that
needs defending or that calls for glib
or evasive generalities. The Flint is
honest and clean clear through!
'Consequently the time a prospect
spends in inspecting a Flint goes fur-
ther toward making a friend and cus-
tomer than all the talk a salesman
could give in a week of Sundays. Of
all the good salesmen who are selling
Flint cars there isn't a question but
what the Flint istelf is the best sales
builder of all."

For one year and nine months ethylized gasoline has been on sale. Jr
is now being distributed through about 20000 filling stations covering one-
third of the territory of the United States.
About 200000000 gallons have been used by more than 1000000
motorists with complete safety and satisfaction.
Recently a distressing accident occured at an experimental plant where
a new process for the manufacture of tetraethyl lead one of the constituents
used in ethylizing gasoline was under development.
Tetraethyl lead is a poison as are many raw materials which enter into
the manufacture of Harmless compounds. Ethylized gasoline consists of 1 300
parts of ordinary gasoline containing less than one part of tetraethyl lead.
This statement is issued to make plain the 1 all-important difference
between tetraethyl lead the raw material and ethylized gasoline the com-
mercial product.
- I v
Ethylized gasoline ismore than an improved fuel giving smoothness to
the motor arid eliminating knocks1 it is a scientific discovery which in its
ultimate development will contribute largely to the conservation of the
world's supply of gasoline. "
Exhaustive tests have been conducted which have established the safety
of ethylized gasoline when used as a motor fuel; These tests Jiave been
confirmed by the United States Bureau' of Mines which is making addi-
tional studies to determine whether any possible injury can result from con
tinued contact when used for other than motor purposes. Scientfic data based - '
on these studies will Be submitted to any health commissioner or other public
of ficial upon request
