lexaa and Oklahoma snowed more
initial production thin week than last
' but . the increase in completions came
. principally from Eastern States. Al-
though there is no apparent reason
for this increase it is a-probable in-
dication that operators are looking
for a change in the crude market. No
actual increases have been reported
but visible signs of a strengthening
atarket see present in the Mid-Con-
t'.nent. Eastern oil men are no doubt.
' confident that this improvement will
spread to their section shortly.
Mountain States recorded the big-
gest loss in the amount of crude re-
covered with 700 barrels-less than
was shown Aast week. This is due
largely to the. closing down of opera-
tions through mountnin States on ac-
. count of winter. The Midwest Refin-
ing company a heavy purchaser of
crude produced in Wyoming end Mon-
tana has announced that it will curtail
. Mtns to stills at Casper refineries.
This will mean a reduction in crude
takings from 45000 barrels down to
3.1000 bnrrels. The Ohio Oil com-
tmsy another buyer of Mountain
States crude has also declared that it
will restrict crude purchases. Only
11 wellH were completed in the north-
ern fields this week with initisl pro-
duction of 1400 barrelB. Production
was reported at 90000 barrels against
DT.000 barrels last week.
California showed an even alump
of -6000 barrels distributed over sev-
eral fields. Long Beach and Tor-
rance were responsible for more than
anno harrl nt this amount and the
balance was made up by other fields
outside tna ixjs Angeiea tntm. v-
Cletions dropped aa compared with

production. One completion was re

field. Ita water volume was small
there being only 12 per cent water
in 2000 barrela of fluid. A number
of new locations have been made at
Cotton Valley recently and these will
be drilled soon. The field has had a
revival of interest since the com

and many tests will undoubtedly be put

Phe week waa an eventful one for
Texas. Besides-an increase of 8000
barrels in production two new coastal
domes were discovered.
Production in North Texas was off
2000 barrels in spite of increases
in Archer county but an increase of
4000 barrel in Gulf Coast held the
average of the state above that of
last week. The increase in the coastal
section ' was due to a big well at
Orance. Drlllinc atatistics for the
state showed a decrease but initial
production went above that of last

MEXIA Nov. 22. The first three
days ot this week three new derricks
went up in the prospective Wortham
oil field giving the semi-wildcat ds
trict the appearance of a young pro
ducing pool. Two of these derricks
bae been built by the E. L. Smith
Oil company and Sirs. J. K. Hughes
respectively.
The E. L. Smith Oil company's test
is on the Beal tract of 8 acres se-
cured from Dr. K. B. Jsckson et al
of this city.
Mrs. J. K. Hughes wife of the well
known Mexia oil man. Is the first
Mexia woman in the history of the
Mexia field to drill a well with her
own finances and personally supervise
the management of the operation. The
test is on the Simmons farm off-
setting and to the north of the Boyd
Oil company's Simmons No. 1.
The third company is the Kirby
Petroleum company whose derrick is
north of the Boyd Simmons about
1500 feet. Drilling will begin on the
three wells by the end of the week.
These three are on a trend northeast
of the Bloyd Simmons and intervene
between.it and the Penn tCRt being
drilled on the outskirts northeast of
Wortham.
Since the townaite of Wortham is
owned by hundreds of property own-
ers each owning a small block of
acreage sometimea not more than
one town lot the leases and royalties
taken lately have been unusually nu-
merous scattering the holdings more
generally thsn on purely fsrm lsnds
where the acreage ia secured in larger
tracts.
Gas Situation Looks
Better in Kingsville
KINGSVILLE Texas.. Nov. 22.
Kissman Well baa a promising out-
look. According to a statement made
by superintendent Steele of the Kle-
berg County Oil & Gas compsny
natural gas in unlimited quantities is
almost a certainty for the immediate
future.'"
A month or more ago the outlook
for a continuation of the gas service
even in a most limited way was pessi-
mistic. It was stated by the officers
of the gas company that unless some
steps were tsken to relieve the fitus-
tion Kingsville would be without gss
before the winter we over.
The compsny purchased the Kiss-
man well from the Humble company.
This waa at one time pronounced a
good gas well but sfter being put
into commission it flooded up with
wster.
Mr. Steele stated he baa lowered
the water and mud In the well to 1750.
The pressure nqw can be raised to
as high ss 800 pounds and the volume
inrreased. he believes.
It is ?iil that when all mud and
water has been removed from the
well it will produce 5.000.000 feet
daily. This will he plenty nf gns tn
meet the seeds of Kingsville.
Use of the seismograph ad torsion
balance highly scientific instruments
for locating two new salt domes in
Fort Bend county during the vast
week caused excitement to reach a
high pitch among coastal operator.
The dome were located with n a day
of each other and not more than fif-
teen miles apart. In both instances
the instruments were used to locate
wells which resulted in the discov-
ery. Moore No. 1 drilled by the Gulf
Production company went into an
hydrite at about 870 feet. This well
rs located near orcnard weaty oi
Bosenberg. The tame formationAvaa
struck by the Pathfinder Oil eom-
pany in it test six mile south of
Big Creek st 629 feet.
These wells with B. Wisdom 1
drilled ly the Kycnde Corporation
about eight miles east of Damon
Mound mark salt domes to be added
to the Gulf Coaat within the past
three months. Although the inxtiii-
ments were not used on the loca-
tion east of Damon they were used
to check the Borne after it was dis-
coveied. The mere preseiice of a salt dome
does not mean that A new oil field
has been discovered but the chances
are ten to one tbut the dome will
yield oil. Practically ali the oil pro-
duced in fields along the' coast In
both Louisiana and Texas comes from
a salt dome and tnere have been
very few domes discovered so far
(hut rave not resulted in a field.
It can readily be seen that if
thee iuatruments continue to suc-
cessfully locate domes the finding
of nil in the (iulf Cunss-will '" iids
lutely revolutionised. The discovery
of one successful field such ns West
Columbia or Salt Lake would be
sufficient to justify the expense of
hunting for a dozen domes and with
a positive means ot delecting these
structures without drilling practically
all the risk in finding oil would be
removed.
Production for the coast district
jumped more than 2 000 barrels dur-
ing the week the m.)st of which came
from Orange. Chesson No. 3 was
worked over by the M'ltnal Oil com-
pany aud made 3900 barrels from
MEXICAN EXPORT.
Exports of crude oil from Mexico
during October totnled 1 1.263.000
barrels of which 7267.000 burrels
were heavy oil and 4.006.000 burrels
were light oil according to word received.
Wyomlni-Moetana. Colore".
Average daily pipe line runs from
the various districts in -Ihe Rocky
mountain region for the week ended
November 15 totaled 90600 barrels.
This was a decrease of 7J0."i barrels
aa ctsmpared with the record for the
week ended November 8. when the
daily average was 117.705 barrels.
Comparative daily runs are shown for
both weeks.
