The Lillian Genth art exhibit spon-
sored by the Ytint art galleries
was opened Wednesday in the Humble
buildlnc to the Houston Art leuruc
and the press. Forty-two pieces byl

honors ever accorded an American
woman painter are included in the
exhibit.
Among the numbers by Miss

net" "A Cop of Tea" "Forest Call"
"Passing Melody" "Gossip" "The
Chain of Life" "Moorish Woman"
"Paqulta" and "Danza des Gttanos."
Miss Genth returned recently from
Spain andMorocco where she corn-

exhibit. Some were painted among
the gypsies who live in the caves of
suns along the Duoro river near Gra-
nada and were difficult to secure due
to the reluctance of nativea to serve
aa models. This difficulty also was
encountered amour tbe Mohamme
dans. On one occasion she obtained
tbe sketch for a very rare Daintini
of a priest as he was walking down a
hallway.
Following the seven-day exhibit of
the 42 paintings a large collection of
works of representative Amerkcn
artists will be shown. Taos N. M.
paintings will be hung. These paint-
ings represenh the work of the na-
tionally known art colony of Tnos.
The last two of a series of three ex
hibits will be continued until on or
about January l it was stated.

W. H. Johnson president of the In
ternational. Association of Machinists
will reacb Houston at (S:D0 d. m
Thursday from 1 Paso and will de
liver a speech at an open meeting at
the Labor Temple at 8 o'clock.
Mr. Johnson will stop at the Rice
hotel. He is on his way to Washing-
ton and will leave Houston Friday
morning.

week in a battle with Deputy Sheriff

ine Pennington 70 who died at 5:50
p. m. Wednesday at the borne of her
daughter. Mrs. George H. Collins

Galveston county all his life. He is

Graduate on Friday
Fifty-five aliens students of tbe
Americanization class in night school
at Central High will be graduated
Friday night from tbe school and will
appear before Federal Judge J. C.
Hutcheson next Monday for citizen-
ship papers.

school 122 others have made appli-
cations for citiienship papers. Their
cases will come up for hearing before
Judge Hutcheson Monday and Tuesday.
