. Change the Street Numbers.
To Tha Post "
1 Having had (0 years' experience with
house numbers in .Houston I know some-
thing of former difficulties. whlch were
plainly and t efficiently solved by the
adoption of the present system.
Ths present system was ths system
devised by A- B. Richardson at the time
hs was . city secretary and John T.
Browns waa mtfyor we believe.
' His first device was to designate all
thoroughfares running east and west as
avenues. Hs than found that with a
baslo street .In each subdivision of the
city (the bayou being the separating
point) that there were not more than
rtlno : blocks 'to the bayou from aald
streets and .then with separating nine
and ten and fixing upon having 100 num-
bers to a block the system wss com-
plete It waa as sasy aa possible to
koo that too was west of Main and
1000 seat of it. The aame with avenues
crossing-Washington Liberty etc.
Ths concluding line ot the recent pub-
lication In Ths Post reada: "And bear
numbers that will not be confusing."
rlt eeems odd thst when you double
numbers you make them leaa confusing
than when they are stated singly! When
a mail carrier ssea number 1100 Dallas
atreet he knows 'Just where It is the
second block east of Main. But if he
sees 100 Dallas hs does not know which
