found. For long years it bad been
neglected save by department por

way. It was in utmost confusion and
in bad condition from dampness.
Dressed in the oldest clothes she
could find even to a pair of cast-off
shoes Miss West set to work. Dust

"Add to the discomfort of dust and

the surface swnddled in cobwebs and
coated with dirt.
As a result of this work the State
library lias acquired a large collec-

is scattered in tbe various state de-

of the Texas Declaration of Inne

within the vault of the secretary of
state's office. In the treasurer's of

The girl met the captain at a hos-

wounded soldiers.
He waa reported to have told tha
girl at tbeir last meeting a few hours
before she returned home to kill her-
self that he expected his wife to di-
vorce him but thpt be proposed to
never again marry.
' Tbe following verses written by the
captain were found in Miss Martin's
papers:
''Vallie dear it's quite pathetic
when a lady geta poetic and inflates
her thoughts aesthetic on an upof-
f ending pal: and if I remember right-

the facta when touching lightly on
our friendship little gal.
"Now I never said my kissea should
be kept for my dear Mrs. for in such
a. world as this is thst would make
life rather flat: Hnd I never made
love to you from the time that I first
knew you. You don't really mean it
do you when you state that I did
that?
"In a tone that's almost chiding
you accuse me dear of hiding facts
I should have been confiding in you
as a family friend. And although it
may be true. It waa a low down trick
to do it. I confess it in tbe end.
Tbe chances you've been taking are
tbe reasons wby I m shaking one 1 ve

though it seems like hitting kind of
