' New York Cotton Market.
" NEW YORK. September 5. SU1I lower
prices were reamed In the- cotton market to-
qy but the selling wse not as active or urgent
ah it wa yesterday and there were sharp ral-
Hies in the late trading. December contracts
recovered from 20.0T to 11.6 and closed st
S 9T. with the general list closing very stesdy
at a net advance of 10 to S3 points.
The market opened steady at s decline ofl
tj 11 points under overnight selling orders at-
tracted by the weakness of Tuesday. There
was also selling of December and later posi-
tions by Liverpool presumably hedging spot
- purchases in the South but the early afierings
were readily absorbed and the market soon
ttrned steadier with October relatively firm.
After showing a net advance of S to points
the market weakened again on a renewal ot
liquidation and inn eased wfferinga following
the nubfication of the week! v .weather report in.
derating that.-tit crap had made - satisfactory

a time there seemed to be very little sup.
Obrt and prices sold off to 20.74 for October
and S0.43 for January during the early alter
noon or about SS to S4 points net lower. The
market then rallied and advanced rapidly. The
firmer tone of the stock market was a factor
i in the recovery while there were also numerous
reports from the South that farmers were re-
fusing to sell.
New Orleans Cotton Market.
NEW ORLEANS. September 5 A much
steadier feeling prevailed in the cotton market
today than has been noted recently and there
. was ja less ready response to selling pressure.
The market acted technically strong and shorts
were inclined to cover on improved spot ac-
counts fhe bullish features in the weekly re-
ports from the government regarding crop and
weather conditions over the belt and the grow-
ing conviction that the end of the season de-
terioration was being generally encountered
over tlx belt: The highest prices of the day
were made toward the close when the most
active months were 14 to 18 points over yes-
terday's tyial quotations. The close showed a
net advance of 10 to 1 points.
