Cotton futures Friday duplicated
their price movement of the prevloU
: day. Early decline of slightly more
than $1 a bale were followed by eub-
Untlal ralUe and during the late
trading contract sold at net gains of
$1.50 a baPa. Final quotation! some-
what off from the top showed net
advance of around tl a bale on the
new crops.
The early selling eeemed to be baaed
principally on. favorable views of the
Weather map- which showed com-
paratively little" rkln while the subse-
quent covering was attributed to fear
aroused by Liverpool Inquiries con-
cerning rumors of a disturbance In the
gulf.
Some uncertainty concerning the
acreage estimate from Washington
also wa Inspired by teports indicat-
ing that repllea to inquiries made by
the New Orleans exchange intimated
that no allowance had .been made by
the government for acreage abandoned
i alnce planting.
If will be recalled that the official
'acreage waa about 4 1-1 per cent
above the average of private expeo-
Utions and necessitated an upward
revision of crop ideas. This revision
induced most of the selling this week.
If It developes that Washington fig-
urea are too large. It is likely that
considerable covering would ensue.
The storrta rumors which apparently
gained circulation in Liverpool seemed
to be without foundation as far as
official records went. The only fea-
4 tures of the map which might be con-
nected with an approaching disturb-
ance were the coastal rains of the
past several days ant) the fact that
the wind was blowing from the north
and northeast at a number of points
along the gulf coast. '
Closing quotationa from New Or-
leans showed gains of 31 points on
July and 19 to 21 points on the new
crops. July finished at 36.69 and Oc-
tober at 23.27. Last price from New
York stood at gains of 38 points on
July and IT to IS points on the new
crops with July at 26.71 and October
at 23.46.
Houston spots were quiet and 35
points higher to 27.75 cents for mid-
dling. Sales totaled 182 bale on an
f.o.b. basis.

Possibility of favorable developments In
the negotiations between England anil France
over the tlcpnian reparations and the late
rally in slocks changed sentiment consld-
arshly and Inclined many to the buying side
especially tu view of tha fart that the
market acts like It Is short. It Is rumored
thst tbe secretary of the t'nlted States

of this will be very bullish.
H. & B. Beer's Letter
NKW OR1.KAN8. July tl The upward
tendency of the market continued today
owing to Hie scarcity of offerings which lo
cals took advantage of to boost values. N hlle

for ciport and there was Inquiry for more
from the continent the market Is very sen-
sitive to weather developments especially
now that the hurricane season Is at head.
Outside of Tevas the growing crop la re-
ported to be making better progress aa tbe
result of more favorable weather of late

HIf ORI.KANS. Inlv it In the face of
highly discouraging report on the P.nroiwun
situation ami a pessimistic statement bv a
prominent senator Just returned the market
achieved a ubtantlal advance from tbe low
point registered early In the session. The
effect of the large acreuge figure Issued hy
the bureau Is wesrtng off and It I also
being realised that acreage alone does not
make a crop. The reports from Teias are
getting rather mixed and while some seclions
sre doing well others are getting leva en-
thuslastic. It seems that aome shorts who
covered veeterdsv again put out their lines
this moeolng. but preferred to get their
contracts bsck even at an advance before
the close. Spinners' takings and Into eight
figures here been discontinued for the re-
mainder of tbe season but the visible supply
showed a shrinkage of about 50 000 bales.
Rumors of further shipments out of the New
York stock caused July shorta in New lork
to cover which had a sympathetic effect
on all deltvertee In our market. Trading
however la exceedingly narrow with little
outside and still less trade interest which
condition makes for Irregular movement
within a small range.
