The completion early la the week of I
J- - 6000 .barrel oil well at Blue Bidge
.; servea to' taae tne eyei ox me ou inuer-
;.; 'nit7 off of Mexoa for a few hours at
least' Early in the week the daily pro-
duction at Mexia fell to total of about
i 120000 barrela a day but late in the
week the completion of several food
wells one of which is probably the neat
' yet completed in the field broufht full
v . attention back to Mexia. - ..
The Blue Kidge completion was the OU
Lee at 4030 feet It atarted out making
more than 3000 barrels of 20.8 (rarity
oil through a choker and waa daieed aa I
- a OOOO barrel producer uter in me i
. week It waa flowing 1700 barrels through
a 8-4 inch choker and waa showing some I
salt water. But this was not surprising
. aa there is some open bole.
2 New Tests.
The Sinclair Oil & Oas company is I
preparing to drill two tests near the new I
well and the Gulf Production company
will also drill at least One well if not two
in that vicinity. The new well is located
on block 9 of the Burlington colony out
of the southwest corner of the J. roinl-
' evant survey and is 150 feet east of a I
a I k UmnJ.iii fill Xr l.aa mm. I
Danv and which produced some oil from
2700 feet. It is the deepest producer!
at Blue Hidge but tne worth of tne well
' ' ia discounted in some quarters on ac-
count of the gravity which is higher
than the usual Gulf Coast oil and fort
that reason draws a lower posted price. I
Oil of this craritv is sold as fuel oil in I
the Gulf Coast and is priced at 80 cental
against $1.25 for regular Gulf . Coast
crude.
A number of other wella very likely
will be drilled at Blue Ridge at an early
date since a number of small tracts in
that vicinity are held by variops indivi-
duals and companies.. .
Thursday at Mexia. the best well of the I
fool acording to many claims was com-
pleted by the U. 8. Texas Oil corporation.
It came in at SOW) feet and produced
more than 1000 barrels an hour for the
first few hours the flow being stronger
four hours after it came in than at first I
Contrary to the general rule 4 1-2 inch I
liner was set in this well smaller than I
is generally used. It is flowing through
two four inch pipes into the flow tank I
and being pumped immediately i into a I
55.000 barrel steel tank. This' well is I
located across the railroad track from
the Houston Oil company s Idle tract
Mexia Well Completed
The Kirby Petroleum company late in I
the week completed its graveyard well
at Mexia for about 0000 barrels daily and
the K. L. Smith Oil company-Interstate
Production company completed their
joint test No. .' Mills for better than
4000 barrels at the usual depth. The
Western Oil Fields corporation also com-
pleted its No. 1 Ross for around 8000
barrels and several other nice prdducers
are sending ou to storage.
With the completions around the mid-
dle of the week the daily production was
jumped to around 175000 barrels against
. a weekly averageof 120250 barrels a
day for the week ending with January 7.
According to the figures compiled by I
the Oil Meekly the Mexia Held produced
an average of 141750 barrels a day for
the last week in December falling much
: below that figure for the following week.
As is usual with bootii-.oil towns.' the
' lawless element of the country flocked!
to Mexia. The situation reached such I
a point that Governor Neff declared I
martial law for the district which in-
cludes the field and tbe town of Sierra.
General Wolters of Houston watwplaced
in command and from tbe appearance of
things late in the week the Mexia field
is destined to be one of the cleanest and
most law abiding oil sections in the
country. This will be just one more
record for Mexia to break as it has
broken several others already.
( Orange Holds Interest.
Orange continues to bold much inter
est. The Humble Oil and Refining com-
pany's No. 5 Chesson. which was com-

-was 30030 barrels a gain of nearly 1000
barrels over the previous week. The
gain in production at Orange and West
Columbia has had the effect of again
bringing the figures back to the level of
month ago and at a time when the
producers would rather not see so much
oil in the face of possible price reduc-
tions. Seventy-eight Active Wella.
At Orange there are 78 active wells
including a large number that have been
v" begun since the Humble'S Chesson No. 5
L well came in for Ja.OOU barrel. The
Humble itself has four wells under way
On the Chesson tract and two on the
Kishi adjoining. The Gulf company is
deepening three wella on the Kishi tract
offsetting No. 5 Chesson and is rigging
p three wells on a single acre controlled
in the middle of the Oscar Chesson tract
The Oil Issues company controlling the
south half of the Chesson 43-acre tract
is preparing to get five or six rigs work-
ing as quickly as they can be assembled.
r The Humble's No. 5 Chesson is still
making about 6 per cent salt' water and
b.s.. but it is believed thst the water is I
coming from a higher stratum and not
from the deep oil sand. It is pointed ont
that the terrific pressure of thia well
when it came in was amply sufficient to
damage the casing.
The Amerada Petroleum company's
