GALVESTON Texas March 14. Ret-
ular steamship service between Galves-
ton and San' Francisco ia to be estab-
lished In the near future if sufficient
cargo is offered. Thia ia the announce-
ment ofE. H. Thornton traffic man-
ager of the Galveston Commercial aseo-
dation. . The proposed line will operate
steamers out of thia port every tare
weeks in the event five hundred tons or
fifteen carloads of freight ia available for
each trip. It waa stated that the new
service would begin out of New Orleans
Tuesday. Swayne and Hoyt steamship
interesta at San Francisco are promot-
ing the new line.
Mr Thornton stated that the new
service would be almost as fast aa all-
tail service and that a combination of
rail and water rates from San Fran-
cisco to Texas pointa would save the
shipper from 40 to 00 per cent on freight
charges. He said that from all indica-
tions the necessary cargo could be easily
