Judge Frank
Lockhart.
S. Xoberts
District Judge Frank B. Roberta who
;. comet out of the officers training camp at
Camp Funaton with captain' commls-
loirin the national nrroy.
Captain Roberta is a native of Caldwell
county. He was born about 40 years ao
t In the eastern section of the county and
-after completing the school eooree of the
' TUral achoola In that vicinity went to
Lockhart and entered th6 public schools
there. During his four years In the high
' school he did Janitor work for Ms tuition
and finished with honors. He attended
law school In Indiana where he was
married and returned to Lockhart to
practice his chosen profession. Was
! elected county attorney and served wKh
much credit for four years. A vacancy
. in the district attorney's ilce caused by
the resignation of James u. Storey now
. living In Houston. Judge Roberts was ao-
i pointed by CJeremor Campbell and filled
that position with credit to himself and
to the state.
Another vacancy occurring in the dis-
trict by the death of Judge L. W. 'Moore
of Lagrange the young district attorney
was elevated to the judgeship by Cov
er our uoiquiii ana nas nuea mat nign
office with ability. Not a case tried be-
fore Judge Roberts has been reversed on
errors and not a man charged by Indict
ment with murder ha been allowed ball
uy mm. -
The counties comprising the district are
Comal Hays Caldwell. Fayette and Aus-
tin and in those counties the people feel
that in the vacating the judgeship for
captain's commission in the army that the
State is a distinct loser.
Captain Roberta Is a natural born sol-
dier and Is of the few that have nrao-
tically expected the present situation for
years and has been preparing for the
inevitable. He enlisted as a private la
the Rough Riders and saw active servtoe
. In that noted regiment. Spent a month In
Vttte officers tralnrna camn In ins ait
has studied persistently war manuals for
the past three or four years and la per.
naps the best ntted civilian In this sec
tion of the State for he position tendered
mm oy me united states army.
Captain Roberts wiu tender his resig-
nation as Judge to Upvernor Ferguson at
once and report for duty at Fort Sain
Houston. It is probable that Cantata
Roberts will remain :n the army. He has
a wue ana one so& ueorge and they have
been living In San Antonio for some time.
The young Roberts Is a military man also
and la a cadet In West Texas and la
preparing for an entrance In West Point
