Say Refinery Will
Not Be Built at Once
Denial that the Empire Gas and Fuel
company intends to erect a refinery im-
mediately on its sitep urchaaed several
months ago on the Houston ship chan-
nel was made by J. W. Jolly; Texas rep-
lesentative of the Empire Gas and Fuel
company of Oklahoma according to the
Gulf Coast Oil News.
Mr. Jolly said that the company in-
tends erecting a refinery on the ship
channel some time in the future ana
that it was for that reason that it pur-
chased the goo -acre tract it owns near
the 'San Jaelnto battleground but he
further asserted that the Drlce of re.
finery materials at the present time Is
so mgn mat tne construction or a re
finery now out of new material is prao
tically prohibitive.
He also said that while a pipe line
irom xne troaucers reilnery at Uainea-
vllle Texas a subsidiary or the Empire
Gas and Fuel company probably would
be constructed In the near future. It
.would not be built for some time. It
had been reported that work on this pipe
line would start as soon as the weather
grew cooler.
Mr. Jolly was unable to say as to the
size of the prospective refinery on the
ship channel declaring that the project
was so far from actual undertaking right
now that he would not say. It Is re-
ported however that It will have both
lubricating and gasoline plants.
President McDowell of the Empire Gas
and Fuel company was In Houston last
week on business and his presence here
waa construed aa being connected with
the refinery.
