The Senior Issue of the Star
has offered the first opportunity
for the Seniors as a class, to ap-
pear in public. We feel, however,
that no great demonstration is
needed. We feel confident that
the school has known all along
that the Senior class was a vital
factor in Normal life. And we are
glad that it is so. To be perfectly
frank, we are real proud of our-
selves. We believe in class spirit
with a vengeance, and we like to
see every one booost for his own
class, even if he is a Sophomore.
We are proud of our debators
and athletics; we are proud of
the brilliance most of us dis-
play in class; we are proud of
the Pedagogue prospects and of
our Senior play that is soon to
electrify the artical circles. But
more than anything else we are
proud of the South West Texas
Normal School, and right here
is where the Senior class goes
into the background. There is
just one line of student activity
that beats class loyalty and
that is school loyalty. It may
be that loyalty is not lacking in
this school, but sometimes it is
certainly effectually covered. If
you are proud of your school,
say so. Don’t be a knocker.
Look up your Normal Nuggets
on the subiect. Don’t let spring
time lessen your enthusiasm, but
get a new supply of pep, boost
your class and your school and
wTatch the President’s smile
broaden. Hurrah for the Nor-
mal anyhow!
THE SENIOR’S IF
WITH DUE APOLOGIES TO KIPLING
If you can study hard when all
about you
Are running ’round and having-
lots of fun.
If you can trust yourself when
all your teachers doubt you,
No matter how few grade points
you have won.
If you can work and not be tired
by working,
Or climb stairs, reporting to P. E.
Or work night and day on lesson
plans and outlines,
Still have a cheerful smile for
every one you see—
If you can dream and not Hunk
out your courses,
If you can think, and only of
your work,
If you can meet with both suc-
cess and failure,
And not become discouraged nor
yet begin to shirk—
If you can bear to see the tests
you have written
Construed by Mr. Thomas'to
suit himself,
Or teach the young’uns in the
Training School for eight
weeks,
And then not make a fuss when
you get “F” —
If you can make a heap of all
your grade points,
And find they’re mostly A’s and
B’s.
And not be tempted then to let
up in your study,
And work a while for only C’s
and D’s;
If you can please Miss Pearsall
with your pictures,
Make Mr. Harrison satisfied
with you,
Get “A” in Ed. 5 under Woodson.
And get a pass from Mr. Miller,
too —
If you can talk to Juniors and
keep your standing,
Or walk with teackers —nor lose
the common touch,
If you can go to chapel every
morning,
And never cut a class, or even
want to—much,
If you can win a little praise from
President Evans,
And see him always smile and
never frown at you —
Yours is the earth, bound up in
your diploma—
And you will be a worthy Senior,
too. — E. P. .
