All matter for publication must be
signed and mailed in The Star box not
ater than five o’clock p. m. Monday.
Entered as second-class mail matter
at San Marcos, Texas, October, 1913.
As an experiment in promoting a
much-needed reform in spelling The
Star is using the lecommended form of
simplified spelling in its editorial col-
umns.
In according with a custom
of the school, The Star extends
an invitation to the four classes
of S. W. T. N. to try their hands
at getting out our weekly. To
the Freshmen is given the op-
portunity to start these issues,
on March 3. The other clas
editions wil folio in this order:
Sophomores, March 9; Juniors,
March. 16; and Seniors, March
23. Wil the Seniors get out the
best edition? ?
-Q---
The editor has had a present-
ment that considerable concern
is present among sum of the
Sofomores over the use of sim-
plified spelling in the editorial
columns of The Star. For the
benefit of these perplexed and
confused fello students we
wish to suggest that there is ab-
solutely no need for any appre-
hension over the matter
While the editor is heartily in
favor of any reform in our pres-
ent complicated system of spell-
ing, he is aware that such a
reform wil come about very
gradually. Furthermore, no
one is first to adopt the recom-
mended form of simplified
spelling no matter how preva-
lent its use may become. So
why worry?
Perchance any one wishes to
comment on the subject, fav-
orably or unfavorably, the col-
umns of The Star ar at his dis-
posal. We wish to say, how-
ever, that there certainly is but
one logical reason why a re-
form in spelling should not be
welcomed, and that is the
learning to spell again.

Too Much For Him.
It is said that a. resident of
Kansas recently committed sui-
cide, and his reasons for doing
so were found on a scrap of
paper found in his left boot leg,
and read as follows:
“Married a widow with a
grown daughter. My father
visited us frequently, fell in
love with my step daughter,
married her, and so became my
son-in-law, and my stepdaught-
er became my stepmother.Later
on a son was born to me, who
under the circumstances be-
came my father’s )brother-in-
law and my own uncle, on ac-
count of being a brother-in-law
to my step daughter. My step
daughter also gave birth to a
son, who was certainly my
brother, and at the same time
grand son. My own wife thru
all his was my grandmother. 1
was at the same time my wife’s
husband, and in consequence,
the husband of anyone’s grand-
mother must be his grandfather
So I became my own grand-
father, which was more than I
could bear.”
