Y. M. C. A. Membership
Committee.
The work of the Y. M. C. A.
membership committee is divided
largely into three parts: the fall
campaign, regular Iwork during
the winter months, and the
spring work. The fall campaign
continues through the first four
weeks of the school, and an
effort is made to enlist as many
members as possible during that
time. The regular work is car-
ried on during the winter-board
ing houses and classes are can-
vassed for new members, and a
record of all members is kept
by the committee. The spring-
work includes plans and prepa-
ration for the next year’s work
and the enlisting of alumni mem-
bers.
At present we have a well or-
ganized committee which holds
-its regular meeting each week.
We are glad to report ninety
members at present. New mem-
bers are being added almost dai-
ly. Come and join us. The as-
sociation needs you; and we
have reason to believe that you
will get much pleasure and pro-
fit from the association.
Chairman of committee.
Miss Floy Lewis, chairman of
tke intercollegiate Committee of
last session, writes that she is
enjoying her work as teacher of
"‘little folks” in Nacogdoches.
Miss Ma,ud Hanks, chairman
of the Mission Study Committee,
is now teaching in San Marcos
and we are glad of her help in
our meetings.
Petition to Faculty.
When in the course of human
events, it becomes necessary for
the senior class to reach room
22, a decent respect for their
opinion of freshmen requires
that the freshman use the west
stairway in descending.
We hold these truths to be self
evident, that all classes are
created free and equal and that
they are endowed by the faculty
with certain inalienable rights,
that among these is the use of
the stairways. The history of
the present Freshman class has
been a history of repeated usur-
pations. To prove this, let facts
be submitted to a candid world.
They have seized our stairway
—the nearest and most direct to
room 22.
They have blocked our progress
and made us late to class, there-
by causing a frown to appear up-
on the otherwise smiling counte-
nance of Mr. Thomas.
They have sadly trampled i
upon our feeling—and our toes, i
We, therefore, humbly beg
and petition that Mr. Evans,
and Mr. Thomas, and Mr Miller,
be placed upon a committee to
have a fire escape erected at
once, and that all Freshmen un-
able to escape by the west d^or
be allowed to use this fire es-
cape.
Humbly invoking the blessing
of relief and the aid of the facul-
ty, we the undersigned, submit j
this petition.
Respectfully, j
Seniors, S.W.T.N.
