SOCIAL SECURITY
NEWS....
Starting with July,
1978, the basic premium
for the medical insurance
part of Medicare will in-
crease to SS.2G a mouth,
up from the $7.70 it has
been since July, 1977,
Franklin H. Upp, social
security manager in San
Angelo, said today.
People who pay the pre-
mium directly will notice
the increase in their bills.
But, Mr. Upp said, people
who have the premium
deducted from their so-
cial security check prob-
Wit $ig JSakt WiUuat
ably will not notice the in-
crease because of the
much larger increase in
their social security check
as a result of the cost-
of-living increase that
goes into effect with July
checks.
Some people pay a
higher amount than the
basic premium. This is
because there was a per-
iod of 12 months or more
that they were eligible
for medical insurance but
were not enrolled for this
protection. The increase
in the basic premium
amounts to 10 percent for
each such 12-month per-
iod.
Even with this slight
increase, medical insur-
ance represents a real
buy, Mr. Upp said. This
is because the people pay
only about 30 percent of
the cost while the Federal
Government pays the re-
maining 70 percent from
general revenues.
The basic premium will
remain $8.20 a month
through June, 1979. For

Angelo Social Security
Office at 2214 Sherwood

MOMENTS FOR MEDITATION
"In His hands arc the deep places of the earth. " (Psalm 95:4)
An oilman friend remarked the other day, "It is 4000 miles from the center of the earth to its surface,
and man has not penetrated as much as 10 miles into its outer skin."
One of our astronauts said, "Man's journey to the moon, when compared to the great deeps of space,
is no more an accomplishment than rising one inch above the ground on which he stands."
In both conversations I was brought face to face with the greatness of God's as described by the Psalmist.
"The heights of the mountains are His also; the sea is in His hand, and He made it; and His hands
formed the dry ground. Oh come, let us worship Him; let us bow down before Him. "
