PICKUP CRIMES
Dianne Hardy-Garcia of
Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby
of Texas says it’s time for
the gay and lesbian com-
munity to begin discussing
the dangers of so-called
“pick-up crimes,” which
occur when gays seeking
sexual liaisons with
strangers are targeted for attack. Often the
victims are closeted and afraid to report the
crimes to authorities, a situation Hardy-Garcia
says must change.
