Friends and fans of long-time Dallas entertainer John Coffman marked John’s
departure from Dallas with a huge farewell roast at John L’s.
Thirty-six volleyball teams from around
the country will participate with
registration taking place at Moby Dick
tonight beginning at 7 p.m. Moby Dick
is also gearing up for post tournament
celebrations on Sunday from 8 p.m. till
closing. Tourists — and we love tourists
— will be glad to know that there’s a
free shuttle that runs from Moby Dick to
the Brick on Friday, Saturday and
Sunday nights beginning at 10 p.m.
Cowboys football on four TV
screens is a tradition at Jugs and you
can catch the games there each week, as
well as free Peppermint Schnapps shots
each time Da Boyz score. This week, in
honor of Texas-OU weekend, the
tradition extends to Saturday, with the
Longhorns and Sooners battling it out on
TV, and free Peppermint Schnapps shots
each time the Longhorns score.
Tradition combines with elegance
and generosity when you talk about the
United Court of the Lone Star
Empire. Next weekend that tradition
will go into it’s 20th year here in Dallas
with Coronation XX, Regale’: A
Crown Jewel Ball. Coronation XX and
related activities will revolve around the
Ramada Hotel by the Convention Center,
home of Eve Summers.
Here’s a sign I’m about to say bye-
bye for this week. I’m going to jam
some quickies together here at the end
of this week’s column quicker that
Hillary Clinton can say, “Get rid of him,
he’s trouble!” .... Tim never can say
bye-bye, especially to the two German
sausages he’s been entertaining at TMC .
Judy Carter is very entertaining.
She calls herself the Lesbian-Comic-
Magician and has been seen on HBO
and in P-Town, and now you can see
her perform live at The Moon here in
Dallas. Judy will appear at the Moon on
Tuesday and Wednesday next week,
Oct. 11-12 at 9 p m. Tickets are available
at the Crossroads Market ... Trella
Thomas is available most anytime and
you can catch her on Thursday nights at
There’s no better way to kick off Texas-
OU Weekend in Dallas than Big Daddy’s
ManFestival.
It’s another Dallas tradition that
It was the big sounds of Atwood and involves jocks, balls and partying. It’s the
Comeaux at John L’s last weekend. diva Fall classic rv on Oct. 7-9.
Dante doesn't grab his crotch in
public, but he has been known to drop
his pants. His tattooed butt is already
well known at the TMC so he’s
spreading his fame (and more) by
dropping his pants in straight bars in
North Dallas.
Meanwhile Ken’s most recent claim
to fame is from a road trip he and Dante
took to Houston. On the way home they
drove with the top down and the wind
and sun chapped Ken’s lips. Okay, the
wind, sun and some extracurricular
activities. By the next day his lips were
peeling off, proving once and for all that
chickens really don’t have lips.
They'll be dimming the lights and
donning their boots and boxers for the
Texas-OU Weekend Flashlight Party
at the Brick 3ar Tonight, Friday, the
Brick will light up your life and favorite
athletic supporters at their monthly
Flashlight Party with free flashlights to
the first 300 guests. On Sunday it will be
the return of Muscles in Action at 10
p.m., and as they say at the Brick, “You
can look, but don’t touch!” By the way,
the Brick is also a great place to catch all
of the NFL action on Sundays.
If you’re looking to keep up with
the good times, check out the “Keeping
It Up” Cookout and Beer Bust Friday
and Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 2 a m. at
Big Daddy’s. The event benefits the
Keeping It Up Safer Sex Committee of
the AIDS Resource Center. And of
course, the good times are rolling with
the Express Male Dancers every day
frqm open to close at Big Daddy’s.
Plenty of folks will be setting sail for
Cedar Springs this weekend for the
Texas-OU festivities. You can drop your
anchor at-the Anchor Inn to catch the
Texas-OU weekend shows, featuring
guess emcee Della Contessa on Friday
night at 11, and guest emcee Gypsy on
Saturday night at 11. And don’t forget
Sunday Cookout where you can watch
the Dallas Cowboys sink the Arizona
Cardinals on Anchor Inn’s big screen TV.
Excellent entertainment is the name
of the game over at The Hideaway
where you can catch Myrna Hunt on
Friday night, and Carol Brandon and
Buddy Shanahan on Saturday. Each
Sunday, you can bring your own meat
or but it there when the Hideaway hosts
its Cookout on the Patio from 4 to 8
p.m.
You can catch the Texas-OU
shootout at Buddies with free hotdogs
and drink specials from 11 a.m. to 7
p.m. Then hang out until 10:30 p.m. to
catch Buddies Show of Shows,
featuring a special appearance by
Nirobi
It should have been an arresting
moment for me last Sunday at the
Millennium. At the very least I should
be locked up. You would agree if you
had seen me dancing atop one of the
dancer stages. Thanks to an adoring or
possibly just drunk audience, the real
and actual dancer claims I made the
most tips. I assured him I could be had
for the price of a cocktail.
Backstreet’s Strip Contest. Meanwhile
Trella’s roommate Michael still dreams
of Robert, the Big Ben from across the
Big Pond in London. Michael loves it
when the British are coming .... From
across the other pond it’s Kalani, the
Hawaiian Princess who has washed
ashore, once again, at Backstreet.
Kalani will be serving your favorite
libations at Backstreet from 2 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday through Friday and on
Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. . . . The
Leather Knights are hosting Camelot I
this weekend with registration on Friday
at the TMC. The Camelot I show of
shows and banquet will take place at the
Brick Bar on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
After last weekend I suppose Wild Bill
as Betty Davis will be wearing horizontal
stripes. The Leather Knights will have
brunch and their awards banquet back
at the TMC on Sunday .... Kourtney
Wells knows well that being beautiful
can be painful. Even though she broke
her foot during Miss Gay Texas she still
squeezed into high heels last Sunday to
dazzle them at the Millennium
Peggy and Jake will dazzle you on
Mondays at the Village Station for the
Martini Madness that continues where
it first began. The martini masters will
get things flowing beginning at 8 p.m. . .
. Jolly’s on Cedar Springs next to Thai
Lotus has a yummy shrimp and oyster
bar on Saturday and Sundays beginning
at noon. The also have a 25-cent beer
bust with a $2 buy-in .... I personally
want to welcome visiting Texas-OU fans,
and I do mean personally. Ditto for the
divas of DIVA Fall Classic IV. Thanks
for traveling to Dallas, we love jocks . . .
. We love traveling; we just hate saying
bye-bye! But Chris and I have decided
a run for the border is in order. Now all
we have to do is slip out of town
without anybody figuring we went bye-
bye. It’s not that we get into trouble
when we party and travel alone — okay,
maybe we do. Our current plan is to tell
friends, lovers, bosses and family that
we just joined the Clinton White House,
and when it’s bye-bye time then no one
will expect to hear from us again. ▼
Melody does the honors as hostess for
the Texas-OU Weekend finale show, 11
p.m. Sunday at the Anchor Inn.
