Maryland Safe He Says for
Bryan and Sewall
New York Oct 9 Senator
Gorman is again in New York
He today conferred quietly
with nearly every democratic
leader here and received con-
fidential reports from Buffalo
Albanyand die counties The
senator is not interfering with
the work of the local demo-
cratic organizations but he is
familiar with Empire State
politics and is keeping himself
posted in his own way He
said that Maryland is now safe
for Bryan and that the out-
look in New York is much
more encouraging than it was
when he was last here It is
too early Senator Gorman
thinks to claim New York by
a stated majority but he is
hopeful that the situation vill
warrant a prediction of this
character two weeks hence
It is understood that Sen-
ator Gorman read the riot act
to several of the Tammany
leaders today is regard to con-
gressional nominations and
that he has undertaken to
straighten out the complica-
tions that have arisen between
the populists and the Tam-
many democrats over these
nominations
