SPORTS
Pirates Victorious
Over Rams, 87-86
A basketball ‘hole-in-one’, one of
the rarest and most spectacular
feats in sports annals, gave the
Southwestern University Pirates
an 87-86 victory over the Texas
Pikes' Team Upsets
Fightin’ KAs, 8118
By M KG A PHONIC STAFF
Despite the hilarious antics of
Larry “Groovy", “Watersprite"
I Jones and the “sincerity" of cap-
I tain Jack Ramey the KA "Circus
Trotters" lost to the Pikes (semi-
confused at such a performance by
the Southern Gentlemen) by a
score of 81-18 Wednesday night. .
Jones left the stands about mid-
way in the game to suit up for the
Men in Gray, who were on the
small end of a 40-13 score at the
half. Ramey, having four fouls to
his credit by this time, relinquish-
ed his action on the floor to team-
mate Jones and his spastic foot-
work. The Pikes had to quickly re-
vamp their defense, and the KAs
scored hut one point in the third
qua rter.
Valiantly trying to refrain from
laughing, the Pike team altered its
method of attack to cope with
Ramey and Jones as they repeat-
edly replaced each other in the last
quarter. At one time both were in
the game at the same time. This
maneuver could have proved dan-
gerous to the Pikes when Jones hid
out behind his goal while one of
the Pikes was executing a free-
throw. The KAs lost their oppor-
tunity to score, however, as Jones
was knocked off balance by the
ball thrown all the way down court
by Ramey when putting it into
play.
Weslyan Rams of Fort Worth in
Gregory Gym here Friday night.
During a jump-ball situation in
the tree-throw circle with less than
a second showing on the clock,
Pirate James Baker outjumpe
his taller Ram opponent to tip the
ball through the hoop for the win-
ning two points.
Pandemonium broke loose as S.
j U. rooters and students swarmed
I down on the court to hoist Baker
to their shoulders and parade him
around tin* floor.
Pirate Bob Mulcahy poured
through 11 points in the final eight
minutes to help the Pirates over-
conn* a Ram lead that at one time
was as much as 10 points.
Richard Mundy of the Rams
was the high scorer of the game
with 36 points. Pirates Barney
Stanley with 10 and Joe San Miguel
with 12 aided the Pirate cause.
The victory was the second in
conference play for the Pirates,
who now have a two won-two lost
record.

We are extra proud of the Pir-

ball game. The same praise goes
to our own team in winning a close
one over a fighting PiKA team.
Sorry, but no necklacings, pin-

corner; so we’ll be signing “30"
for this week.
Evelyn Biegert was elected Best
Initiate for 1956-57 by the pledge
class.
Most "WANTED” pledge~Dea*a
Williamson.
News was kind of spare this
week, and this seems to cover
everything pretty well; so we’ll
wrap this up by wishing everyone
lots of luck with final exams!
P.S. Just in case anyone starts
wondering why the campus will be
so quiet after mid-term, it is be-
cause Patsy Quested is graduating
and we are really going to miss
her on the Phi Mu wing. Good
luck, Patsy!

Wigham and Jim Renick who be-
