SPOTL.TE swimming Pool To
Be Open At Night
By Boh Parker
TENNIS. ANYONE?-We un-
derstand that the new tennis courts
will be ready for play sometime
within tin* next few weeks, it is
hop'*d. According to the Business
(MTiee. a new top is being laved at
this time. If it proves satisfactory,
die final installations will be com-
pleted soon thereafter.
The courts ave being built on an
acceptance contract. In other
worn the finished surface must
be tip to standards or the Univer-
sity can refuse to accept the job.
This is what happened the* first
time, causing the delay in putting
the courts into operation. It is hop-
ed that this second topping will be
of adequate enough quality to per-
mit the final construction.
When the new courts are com-
pleted, the old ones behind Mood
Hall, will be converted into a park-
ing lot. And it is about time. The
old courts were a disgrace to the
University when conference tennis
teams visited SU during the course
of the season. There was one ad-
vantage however; the visiting net-
ters weren’t used to playing the
weird bounces the balls would take
of the cracks in the SU courts, and
the unusual antics of the ball upset
them somewhat.
EftROR ON THE EDITOR—An
eagle-eyed MEGAPHONE reader,
who just happened to have his Gil-
lette version of the Encyclopedia
of Sports handy, caught us in a bad
mistake on last week’s sports page.
The reader, David Goss, was per1*
turbed about the question in the
Sports Quiz article which stated
that only two major sports had ori-
ginated in the Americas, and ask-
ing what they were. The answer
we had was lacrosse and jai alai.
David pointed out, ‘I think you for-
got basketball!”
And he was so right.
WHICH REMINDS US OF A
STORY—Speaking of errors in the
sports pages, we liked the story
told by Jerry “Tiger” Ingram the
other day. Seems that Yogi Berra,
the New York Yankee catcher, had
been pounding the ball one day,
collecting three hits in as many
trips to the plate. However, the
next morning’s newspaper account
credited Yogi with only two safe-
ties. This bothered Berra no little
bit, and he cornered the paper’s
reporter in the clubhouse before
the next day’s game. “How come
you only showed me getting two
hits yesterday?” the inimitable Yo-
gi demanded, “I got three for
three!” “You’re right, Yogi,”
soothed the reporter, “We left one
of your hits out—it was a typo-
graphical error.” “Typographical
error, my eye!” shreiked the out-
raged Berra, “It was a clean base
hit!”
Blame Tiger.

Many questions have been raised
concerning the recreational swim-
ming schedule. Lights for night
swimming are available as sched-
uled below, but lights will not be
turned on ynless swimmers appear
in the evening. Arrangements may
be made with Coach R. M. Medley
for evening swims.
