Seabees send Michael Robb
to build peacekeepers' camps
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class
Michael G. Robb, son of Ken and
Pam Robb of Port Aransas, recently
departed for Croatia with nearly 200
Navy Seabees from Naval Mobile
Construction Battalion 133.
Home based in Gulfport, Miss.,
Robb was on a six - month deployment
to Rota, Spain, when the group was
ordered to the former Yugoslavia.
Robb is in Croatia to construct a
2,500-person camp for the NATO
Implementation Force keeping peace
initiatives in Bosnia-Herzegovinia.
The camp will be used as a staging
area for troops entering the area and
will include tents, lighting, showers,
bathrooms, laundry and cafeteria.
The second phase of construction
will be a permanent structure for the
men and women coordinating troop
movements. Once construction is
completed, Robb will help build three
additional camps in Bosnia.
Robb and fellow Seabees represent
a variety of trades such as builders,
equipment operators, electricians,
plumbers and mechanics. They also
arc trained to defend themselves and
arc well known for their humanitarian
efforts around the world, a Navy
spokesman said.
Robb’s involvement in the deploy-
ment is an example of how Naval
forces are poised to deploy rapidly to
overseas areas of interest, the spokes-
man said.
Navy Seabees, like Robb, play a
crucial role in supporting operations
ashore. Seabees can build roads, air-
strips, buildings and support forces
operating ashore from the sea.
The group’s name - Sea bee - comes
from the initials CB for construction
battalion.
Robb has been in the Navy since
April 1992.

Library is preparing
for move in January
Ellis Memorial Library is about
ready to make the big move not only
to complete automation, but to its
larger new quarters on Avenue A
across the parking lot from city hall.
Once the move is accomplished,
said library director Sue James, all
patrons must have a library card in
their possession to checkout any ma-
terials.
The library is scheduled to close in
its present location at 2 p.m. Satur-
day, Jan. 6, and to re-open in the new
building on Wednesday, Jan. 17, or
thereabouts. Patrons are advised to
check the South Jetty for the definite
date and time.
Starting today (Thursday, Dec. 21)
there will be an amnesty on all over-
due materials. Fines will be forgiven
if the materials arc returned, James
said.
Because of automation and the need
for a library card in their possession,
patrons are asked to “come in and
apply for their new cards,” James
said.
Along with amnesty and a new
library, comes a new fine policy, James
said. Those with late videos will be
charged 25 cents a day with a $2
maximum.
Books, paperback as well as hard-
back, and audio cassettes that are late
will cost 5 cents per day, with a $2
maximum. Lost library cards for chil-
dren under 17 will be reinstated for 50
cents, but it will cost adults over 17$1
for a replacement card.
When the library re-opens, the hours
will continue to be: Tuesday, 10 a.m.
to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.; and Sat-
urday, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
