season gets under way.
With the first scrimmage on the
calendar for Tuesday, Nov II, in
Aransas Pass, Lady Marlin Coach
Melanie Mayer is hoping she will be

school, we students were disciplined

in class, talking too much with our
buddies, or stealing a kiss from our
girl friend III got disciplined at school

called) my dad wouldn't be in the
mood to discuss my innocence with
me He simply finished what the nuns
had begun Today many things have
changed. The problems we are disci-
plining children form school are much
more complex, and the support from
many homes just isn’t there. To un-
derstand what I am talking about,
compare the common problems of 50
years ago to what they are today.

magnitude of problems that larger
school districts do. the truth is we are
not exempt from the problems of so-
ciety. We are. in fact, starting to deal
with the 1998 problems Although
rare, they do occur. Last week, for
instance, we caught a middle school
student with rifle ammunition in his
locker. After calling the police and
having the student taken to the police
station, the police were informed by
in the halls, chewing gum. talking in juvenile authorities that it was not
class, littering, wearing improper illegal for the student to have this type
clothing, smoking in the bathrooml
and not completing homework. The!

seem like a big deal. We need to
change that. We. as a community,
must maintain the highest possible
standards if we are to feel safe and be
successful in our mission to raise good
citizens.
We want parents, students, and
community members know that in the
Port Aransas Independent School Dis-
trict. we expect students to he well
