on what the engineer says,” McComb
said
The pier, he said, has apparently
historically been repair out of the
county ’s "hip pocket” by county crews
"In today’s world where we've got
everybody looking (to file law suits),
it ran (he cost up more than we antici
paled," McComb said
McComb said he and Borchard
asked Veteto to look at othei options
that will meet the needs of the people
who use the pier while staying within
the budgeted amount The commis-
sioners had budgeted $80,000 to
$100,000 for repairs. McComb said
Veteto should report hack in about
two weeks.
In order for an engineer to approve
plans for repair, it must meet certain
criteria
“If the engineer signs off on (the
plans) and someting happens, neither
lie nor the county can afford it."
McComb said. "We want to be sale
and be financially able to do it," he
added
An estimate that was more than 3< m t
times what commissioners thought it
would cost "caught us by surprise,"
McComb said
“I'm still committed to getting the
ler up and running, hut I'm not sure
what the answer is at this point,"
Mc( mill' said
