And he
said unto
them. When ye pray,
say. Our Father
which art in heaven.
Hallowed he thy
name. Thy kingdom
come. Thy will be
done, as in heaven,
so in earth. Give us
day by day our daily
bread. And forgive us
our sfns; for we also
forgive every one that
is indebted to us. And
lead us not into temp-
tation; but deliver us
from evil.

“The Old Testament Was Nailed To The Cross”
Col 2:13-14 He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing
it to the cross. N1V
The Bible is a book made up of other books. Basically it is two groups of books or to use its own words, two testaments. The section we call the Old Testament is basically
a stating of the laws and history' of the Jewish nation. It contains an agreement between God and the Jews about how they would treat one another. The Old Testament was
the only written code that God had made with mankind at the time of writing the above verse. A number of passages in the Bible tell us that the Old Testament was put into
place for a particular reason and after that reason was completed its place as a law was ended. That is in agreement with our understanding of a testament. Two testaments
covering the same parties cannot be in affect at the same time. The last one takes precedent. The New Testament is the latest agreement between God and man so it is the
one that A in affect.
What difference does this make ? That is why we do not offer animal sacrifice for sins, nor refrain from work on the Sabbath (seventh day), nor go to Jerusalem three times
a year. All those things were commanded in the Old Testament. The passage quoted above tells us the Old Testament was nailed to the cross. Now our sins are forgiven
because of the one sacrifice of the sinless Son of God, Jesus Christ. We can accept that forgiveness through the New Testament which came into effect after His death. It is
His Testament (Will) that replaces the Old Testament which was nailed to the cross. The fact that the Old Testament was nailed to the cross and that we are now under the
New Testament is what makes it possible to have a relationship with God that is distinctly different, open and complete. Thank God that we now live under the New Testament.
