quarterly and this rocked along uřítil
the June 1953 meeting, and with the
counsel of the District III President
Sid Pokladník of Dallas and J.
Hrabina, of Ennis we voted to start mon
tlily meetings. The next meeting was
to be held at Shady Rest, if available
to us, and through the courtesy of the
Owner, Albert Casper and Sister Cas-
per, Shady Rest was loaned to us. In
the July meeting of 13'53 we wrote up-
il new members. The August meeting
pointed out that what few members
we had were scattered all over the
statě and nation and that growth was
hopeless. The official-s of the Supreme
Lodge advised that the delegation go
back home and eall a meeting of all
the members that could attend and
some solution would be worked out.
This meeting was ca,lled and heM in
the liome of Bro. and Shter Ed and
Agnes Mazanec. The lodím was rnr.
ganized, with meetings to be held
was held in the home of Bro. and Sis-
ter Cliris and Rosemary Spence, and
a motion was made and carried that
we start looking for a sítě for a new
halí. The Šeptem ber meeting was held
again at Shady Rest, where new mem-
bers were iniated by Bro. Marek of the
Supreme Lodge. At this meeting a
Committee composed of Brothers Frank
Parma, John Simcik, Anton Mazanec,
Edwin Narovec, Ed Mazanec, and Chris
C. Spence Jr. was to fincl a site on
which to build our lodge halí. The com-
mittee found the site on which Lim-
den Halí now stands and a Resolution
was passed that the property be pur-
ehased from Aug. Hottman, and it was
purchased. At this tirne the writer was
transferred to San Antonio, and Bro.
Anton Mazanec was elected president.
He carried on, with the help of all the
active members of Lodge 66, ad our
first Linden Halí was built. In the
meantime, after purchase of the site,
our meetings were held under the
trees on the building site until the halí
was built and completed.
The walls and roof were built by a
eontractor but all the inside finishing
and outside pa'nting was doně by ac-
tive members of Lodge 66 the hard

bv dav and after work would eome to
the halí and do the finishing of the
inside and out until the halí was fin-
bheb and finally dedicated on August
28, 1955.
Organizers were busy; new members
were signed up almost every week end
and Linden Halí began to groan with
an overload of fine people who sought
elean reereation. A year later we made
a clecision to add 32 feet to the hal!
which was dome, and this time the ad-
dition was built by a eontractor. We
had another celebration, which also
was the celebration of the 50-year
Jubilee of our lodge.
Again in 1960 we came to the con-
clusion that we would háve to build
another addition to our halí because
crowds were being turned away every
Saturday night and new members were
coming in regularly. So, we decided on
building again and the present bar-
room, clining room, larger stock rooms,
and ladies’ lounge were built to accom-
modate the increa.se in business. This
addition was also budit for us by a con-
tractor. Today, Idnden Halí is one of
the most copied halls in Texas. (See
back cover for picture of Linden
Halí. — Ed.)
Many of you who come to the XIX
Convcntion will get to see first-
hand the balí that has doně so much
for the enfeire SPJST. Members would
visit us from near and far to see how
so much was accomplished from so lit~
tle and many went home with confi-
dence that they . could also do what we
did. Lodges began to grow and pros-
per all around tis, and we are happy
that we háve been of some inspiration
to others.
