Most of the oider memben and im-
mJ.grants who visited Waeo many years
ago wíll remember Brother Mi ke Ma-
zanec and the old Tivoli Halí Saloon,
jm-mirani ar.d Hotel in Waco.

It was at the horné of Bro. Mazanec
that new liře was breaíhed into the
almost-disbanded Lodge 86, He was
also one oř the charter members who
helpe,d organize the lodge in 1906.
Bro. Mazanec was very hospitable
and aecommodatin?; in asaisting and
directing immigrants to other destina-
tiODiS and the location of relativ es in
various localities. Boru in Missouri,
Bro, Míke Mazanec came to Texas in
1891. Sister Agnes Mazanec, bovn in
Moravia, Czechoslovakia, came to this
eountry in 1888. They were married in
1893. Both were charter members of
Slovanská Lina No. 66, organized in
1906.
They had four sons and all became
members of Lodge No. 66. Joe and An-
ton received tlieir 50-year membership
pins a few years ago. Most oř the
grandcMldren are members o;f the
SPJST, and ten of the great grand-
children are members of Lodge No. 66.
In about 1951, two of the sons. Anton
and Edward, played an important part
in bringing Lodge No. 66 back to iife,
since tlie lodge was on the verge of be-
ing disbanded. In about 1955, during
the time Anton was president and Ed

Together with her husband, she was
on© of the charter members of Lodge
66 in Elm Mott. The parents saw to it
that all their children became mem-
bers upon reaching the age of 18, which
at that time was the earíiest insmrable
age.

strumenta! in the seleetion of a builri-
ing site, and láteř the construetion of
Linden Halí,

Ed is the sou of Míke and Agnes
Mazanec and has aíways been a de-
voted worker in all Lodge 66 activities.
HISTORY OF LODGE MORAVŠTÍ
BRATR! NO. 6, COTTONWOOD
Lodge “Moravsti Bratři, known as
the uocčooiWGod Lodge to most of the
memoers, was mgaruzed on Juty 1,. 1807
by ten charter members: John Popp,
luin miKiyi, Karel Slíva, J. T. Červen-
ka, John Holeček, Ondřej Rydel, Josef
lvi keska, Jostph Krizan, Josef Tobola,
and J. T. Adams.
Ofíicers for the year 1897 were Jo-
sef Krizan, President; Tom Přikryl,
Secretary; John Horeček, Vice Presi-
dent; Ondřej Rydel, Financial Secre-
tary; And Josef Mikeška, Treasurer.
Meetings were heid at the homes of
the officers until 1902 when Josef Kri-
zan and his wife Marya donated two
aeres of land to the lodge and the
Brothers built a halí where the present
halí is located.
This was the only halí in the com-
munity at the time, and. was the center
of much aetivity.
An opening celebration was hekl in
1902, and Miss Mary Krizan, daughter
of Josef and Marya Krizan, was select-
ed the queen of the Lodge on that oc-
casion, she was given the key to open
the dooř to the liail.
For 30 years the lodge grew slowly,
like everytlUng else.
In 1932 a stage was added. In 1947
Bro. Charlie Mikeska became an or-
ganizer when the contests started
among the distriets. Bro. Mikeska be-
gan working hard selling insurance to
win ověř the other distriets. Our dis-
trict lost because there weren’t enough
organizers working hard enough.
In 1959, John and Rudolph Krizan
sold insurance to win the first District
III Queen contest for our lodge. She
was Miss Janie Hubik; her eseort was
Jerry Janek.
The lodge won the honor again in
1961, when the queen representing our
lodge was Miss Linda Mynar; her es-
eort was Donald Zatopek; Duchess Ka-
tily Zapalac; her eseort Bobby Dobec-
ka.
In 1961 Lodge No. 6 al.so had the
highest number oí new members in
s tate.
In 1959 a youth club was organized:
The first officers were: Janie Hubik,
President; Vice President Richard. Mi-
keska, Secretary Jerry Janečka; Trea-
surer Johnnie Krizan; Reportér George
Smajstrla; entertainment committee
Jeanette Krizan and Kathy Zapalac
Sister Ruth Krizan was elected the
Youth Leader. She was Youth Leader
Until 1964. In 1962 the Club had ap-
proximately 100 youngsters registered
