Mr. an,d Mrs. John J. Jez of Temple,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, LaVerne Joyce, to Allen Ernest
Muller. The weddipg will také. plače in
the Temple Brethren Church in Septem-
ber. '
Miss Jez and her fiance are seniors at
the University of Texas where she is
majoring in English and he is majoring
in mechanical engineering.

Louis Joe Vašek, 66, a farmer of the
Fayetteville area, passed away in the
Fayette Memoriál ihospital early Satur-
day morning. Funeral Services were helcl
at 8:45 a.m. Monday in Fayetteville.
Mr. Vašek, so,n of Joe and Annie Sý-
kora Vašek, was born at Elli,nger on
July 21 1894, and lived in the Ellinger-
Fayettevllle area all of his liře. He was
married at Fayetteville to Caroline Bili
who survives.

Raymonid; F. Lanik, lifelong resident of
Sweet Home, died at 11:30 a.m. Satur-
iday, July 15th at the Hillje Nursing
Home. Mr. Lanik, 85, a retired mer-
chant, farmer and rancher, lived at
Sweet Home all his life, being born there
on January lst, 1876. He was a member
of the Catholic Church and the St. Isi-
dor and SPJST Societies.

Mrs. Carrie Jurek, 72, a former resi-
dent of Cistern, died at Robstown Thurs-
clay. Funeral Services were held in Smith-
ville Monday morning followed by Serv-
ices in S-ts. Cyril and Meťnodius Catholic
Church in Cistern.
Survivors are two sons, Felix Jurek of
Plaqueine, La., and Alvin Jurek of San
Antonio; two daughters, Mrs. Willie Mae
Johnson of Aqua Dulee and Mrs. Annie
Zitelman of San Antonio; a sister, Mrs.
Agnes Ulcak of Shiner; and a brother.
Frank Brosoh of Cistern.

Anton Darilek of Hallettsville, has en-
listed in tile Air Force and is undérgo-
ing basic training at Lackland Air Force
Base in San Antonio.

John M. Pastušek, a native of Hostýn
who had lived in Wichita Falls for the
past 53 years, passed away at his home
Sunday afternoon after suífering a
stroke. He was a retired grocer and he
and his wife, the former Elizabeth Čer-
nošek, celebrated their 60th wedding an-
niversary last Jan. 7. They háve many
relatives in Fayette county. '

Academy Chapter of the Future Farmers
of America, attended the State FFA con-
veption in Dallas July 19-21.

Joe Kalmus, was honore.ds with a mis-
cellaneous shower, Sunday, July 9th from
two to íour o’clock in the afternoon at
Hermanson’s Halí.

Beauford J. Piwetz, 28, son of Mr. an,d
Mrs. Leo J. Piwetz of Highlands, passed
away suddenly at a Fort Hood hospital
Wednesday of last week. He had been
stationed at Fort Hood,

Dr. William J. (Bili) Darilek will leave
Aug. 4 for Gunther Aii* Force Base at
Montgomery, Ala., for a month of train-
ing prior to being sent to Thule AFB in
Greenland.

John Joseph Farek, 74, of Houston,
died in a Houston hospital Tuesday
morning, He was a native of the Ehgle
community. Funeral Services were held
Thursday morning at St. Theresa’s Cath-
olic church.

Miss Dorotky Mae Stastny kecáme the
kride of Keith Le Weese in a double-ring
ceremony at the home of the Rev. F. J.
Kostohryz at 10 a.m. Saturday,
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John, Stastny of Temple and the
bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Weese of Elkfns, W. Va.
The Rev. Kostohryz read the marriage
vows and Mrs. F. J. Kostohryz furnished
the nuptial music.

Miss Martha Lois Havlík was the
speaker at the meeting of the Christian
Sisters of the Temple Brethren Church
Monday night.
Mrs. L. L. Havlík was in charge of the
program. “Christian Women and Their
Responsibility in tke Wission Work” was

Plans were made for a farewell ice
crearn sociál to be held August .11 for
Miss Havlík, who is leaving for mission
work in August in South America.

James Kulcak, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Kulcak of Louise, enlisted in the
Air Force last April. Ile received basic
training at Lackland AFB San Antonio.
James was recently promoted.to Airman
First Class.

Joseph Frank Koneaba of Shiner pass-
ed away suddenly and unexpectedly at
his home Tuesday, July 11 at 4:15 a.m.
at tihe age of 75 years, 6 months and 18
days. It proved a great shock to his
family and scores of relatives and
friends. He apparently sufferedi a heart
attack and died in his sleep.

Wharton, Texas, was tke setting for the
marriage of Miss Virginia Vaclavik of
Lané City, a,nd Dominie L. Maladenka of
Wled, Texas. The Rev L. J. Price of-
ficiated at the impressive double ring
ceremony.
West — Funeral Services for Edward
Svoboda of Rt. .2 West were held in
West last week, Rev. John Bravenec of-
ficiated. Burial was in Bold: Springs
Cemetery. Mr. Svoboda died at his home
Thursday at age 43

Air-Conditioning Ailment — Dr Marvin
Oirernosky of Houston was much puzzled
by a brand-new summer skin disease he
found in 18 of his patients. On the arms,
iegs, sides of the face and neck, the skin
became dry, brittle, chapped, split, re4
and swollen. Its victims itched and
stu,nd. The only skin disease like it, Dr,
Chernosky decided, was dermatitis hie-
malis — commonly called winter itch be-
cause it occurs only in winter. Finally
deciding that his mid-smnmer suffere-
ers injdeed had the winter itch, he
traced the cause to prolonged exposure
(o the cooling, drying eurrents of air-
conditioning.
