District II Holds Its Meeting In Holland, Texas
itmn* IV |
Á
Lodge Tyrš 80 of Holland, Texas was
host to all the lodges in District II, ad
guests in an all day District Meeting,
Sunday, October 20, 1957.
The Editor and Wife covered this
District II Meeting, as requested. As a
throwbaek from former farming day.s,
your editor is an early riser, so we
started for this meeting early Sunday
míorning to get thcre in plenty of time
to off-set any dclays that might arise
on the thip. The morning was brisk and
the day promised to foe beautiful so our
early morning ride was pleasant.
We arrived in Kolland early, so we
swerved off the highway that by passes
the town proper to see what Holland
reaily looked like. Being Sunday, most
of the town was dosed but we dld get to
see the buildings and judging from the
ornáte brickwork some of the buildings
were -old but in excellent statě of re-
pair. Parked at the curb in Holland we
visualived the farm trade and the typi-
cal Saturday bustie here and there. We
decided to visit the C.M.B. Church and
found the folks gathering for Sunday
Schod. Though smáli, it was very neat
and trim. We enjoyed paying our re-
spects to this fine group of brethren.
As we arrived at the Lodge Halí, like
all gatherings everywhere, the cooks
were already hard at it, getting the noon
meal started.
The folks were long in assembling so
we had ample time to welcome the Aug-
ust Kácirs, the O. Hanuses, who caroe in
with the Simcifcs from Lodge Linden
Halí 66, Waco, Brother Charles Cerny of
San Antonio and his group of folks;
Sisters Holý, Hobort and Brother C.
trict! Of the 34 organizers in this Dis-
trict, 27 participated in this nine month
drive.
Br. Navrátil, as a Director of the S.P.
J.S.T Rest Home in Taylor, Texas, gave
practice, Sister Hejl, more of our sistfrs
should speak in public.
It is noteworthy to stop for a moment
and swerve to the manner in which Sis-
ter Hejl handled the articles in the
us a progress report on the Rest Home, I Handicraft Contest which might just
for our membership in our fraternal
brotherhood háve eontributed funds
through individual donations as well as
lodge projects, proceeds which went to
swell the $100,000 coffer which our S.P.
J.S.T. Order at its last convention gave
outright in the name of Benevolence,
Brotherhood and Humanitarianism. Bro-
ther Navrátil informed us that the Rest
Home will be ready for occupancy next
month, possibly by December 1, and will
be partially furnished. “We stili lack a
lot of money,” Brother Navrátil stated.
“We lack some $12,000 in the building
fund to pay off the contractor, for we
háve only collected through donations by Sister Hejl, who was the only one who
some $7,000 to this building fund this
year. The celebration of the forma!
opening will be held sometime after Eas-
ter next year when we háve better
weather.” In all we need about $65,000
more, he said.
The Editor spoke complimenting the
District II, on the řine job of compiling
their District By-Laws. He compliment-
ed the brothers on the By-Laws Com-
mittee (Slavik, Červenka and Valchar)
who háve worked so industriously and
willingly on these By-Laws to the finál
acceptance of the membership, to Broth-
ers Kacir and Mikolaj for their assis-
tance in the matter. The Editor also
outlined the problems of our Districts
meetings.
be of use to some of our other District
Dl re c tors in the same situation. As list-
ed in their announeements, published in
our Vestnik, the contest was open to
the youth of District II for articles made
in nine categories such as art, ceramics,
metalcraft, crochet, embroidery, quilt-
ing etc. There were two divisions: The
Junior Division for youth under 12 years
cf age and the Senior Division for tho.se
ověř 12. As the articles were brought in
by the contestants, each was ,jp.ven a
number and placed on the table for
■viewing. In a book cpposite the number
was placed the name of the contestant'
reaily knew which number belonged to
whom. This made the judging impartial
for no one knew until after the ribbons
were pinned on the winning articles and:
then the names filled in, just who woii.
Since some, contestants éhtered more
than one article in the same category
throughout the different categories and
since it was planned that the prizes be
spread out as much as possible, Sister
Hejl had to help he judges in keeping,
check so that one child: didn’t get but
one prize in each catagory. Even in
špite of this precaution, some industrious,
youngsters who placed articles in all
catagories walked off with many rib-
bons. The ribbons represented cash, but
when the cash. has been spent, the rib-
bons will remain to remind the child.

Contest Judges were also appointed to
judge the Youth Program.
Brother Joe B. Hejny is stili ill with the
flu.
Meeting was called to order by Presi-
dent Brother Hejl at 11:00 a.m. and
immediately the business at hand —
that of reading of the minutes of the
last meeting by District Seeretary Broth-
er B. Mikolaj were read and approved as
read. Then foliowing the reports of the
various. District cornmitteěs and of our
District Director Navrat.il.
Brother Navrátil listed the top organ-
izers in his district who in the last nine
months secured $141,500 of Insurance,
which represented 109 new míerr.hers for
the lodges in the District, placing this
District fourth in the statě. It was quite
an impressive record. No wonder Broth-
er Charlie Cerny of the Seventh District
and San Antonio, wanted to entice some
of these organizers to move into his dis-
We adjourned for the noon meal,
which was served cafeteria style to the
gathering whose numbers had swelled
during he morning session. Our thanks
to the go-od sisters of Lodge Tyrš 80.
Before the afternoon session started,
your Editor noted a framed roster of the
Iocal officers of Lodge Tyrš 80 and the
Building Committee. Seemed like a good
idea for other lodges to follow — to
let the public know who their iocal of-
ficers were.
Sister Clara Hejl, the District II Youth
Director will give the Vestnik a detail-
ed report of Handcraft Contest winners
as well as that of the Talent Show. She
apologizeď for not being a speaker, but
she did exceptionally well, Keep up the
It ís noteworthy also to notě that
Sister Clara Hejl is a school teacher of
some years standing in Seaton, and
when iťs rainy weather and the chil-
dřen can’t play outside, she added an
extra eurriculea to her teaching, that of
crocheting, and her fifth grade young
sters know how to crochet to written
directions! What a boom to our future
homemakers who háve been taught W
Sister Hejl. They can beautify their
homes with this art at such a smáli cost.
Some of the articles displayed were truly
worthy of the most cliscriminate Hope
Chest.
•Sister Hejl was called upon to give
her report of Youth Acfcivities in Dis*
trict Two. She said: “Being a smaíl

the best we can.” and she suggested a
