The First Czechoslovak Philatelic
Club of America has issued 4 covers
with postage meter to honor American
Czechoslovak Astronaut, Eugene A.
Černán. Only 250 numtoered matched
sets were issued, 4 different colors and
dales: Red, dated Dec. 7, 1972, Blast-
off, 1-250; Green, Dec. 11, 1972, Moon
landing, 1-250; Brown, Dec. 14, 1972,
Moon take-off, 1-250; Blue, Dec. 19,
1972, Splash-down. postage meter tapes
were made 80 per day, 50 with zero
postage, 20 with 21c air mail for Europe
10 with 8c domestic first class mail.'
During the philatelic evening held,
Ipec. 9th, 100 invitations were canceled
with the meter ser o-postage. Each
couple or individual at the dinner re-
ceived this additional invitation, plus
cover that I had issued on own for the
occasion. Each cover has a picture cf
ia rocket in orange color, 8c meter
postage and reads: “Comipliments from
Josef J. Janečka, President, First
Czechoslovak Philatelic Club of Amer-
ica.” The guest speaker of the even-
ing was Leslie Vincik, President. Il-

school, now divided into 2 sections —
Proviso West in Hillsi.de, lil. and Pro-
viso East in Maywood, 111. Both scho-
ols issued Pitnew Bowes postage meter
with the sarne text, “Saluting with
pride, Capt. Černán ’52.” On left-hand
side is a round Apollo emblem. The
ordy diíferenee between the two is
that one is longer in length, emblem
bigger in diameter, and heavier let-

The Czech Club\s slug reads in 4

Evans, Harrison H. Sehmitt.” The bot-
tom line, “Good Luck.” On the left
side is the emblem of Space and 3
intersecting ovals.. The town of Hill-

speciál machine cancel that came into
servic.e, Dec. 6 tli, and will be ušed for
6 months. Slogan reads: “Home of
Astronaut, Eugene A. Černán — Gemini
9 — Apollo 10-17.”
Eugene CernaiYs íather, Andrew K.
Černán, was born in Slovakia, (Vysoka
nad Kysucou). His mother, Rose Čer-
nán,. maiden narne Cihlař, family
comes from Southern Bohemia, to day a
part of Czechoslovakia. Mother of Eu-
gene lives in Hillside, about 10‘ miles
west of Chicago.

The seven members of the new Pub-
lica lion Comnhttee held a c.alled meet-
ing at the Supreme Lodge on Janu ary
20, 1973 at 1 p.m. Members present
were: Melvin Skrabanek, District 1;
Ruby L. Bolten (substitute), District 2;
Edward Mazanec, District 3; Louis Ha-
nuš, District 5; William Mieulka, Dis-
trict 6; John Hranicky, District 7, and
Editor Rudy Sefcik.
President Nick Morris op med the
meeting and íorwarded a letter from
Frances Olexa addressed to the Publi-
cation Committ.ee and read, from the
čonvention proceedings, the cOmmittee’s
reimbursement. President Morris open-
ed the meeting for election of officers
and the foliowing officers were elected:
Brother Mazanec, chairman; Brother
Skrabanek. více chairman, and Brother
Hanuš, secretary.
A discussion was held concerning a
letter of protest submitted by the PC
to the chairman of the By-Law Com-
mittee, the chairman and více chair-
man of the 'XXI,st čonvention, the Su-
preme Lodge, and the čonvention sec-
retaries, in reference to Art. 52B as pro-
posed by the PC which has not been
answered.
Editor Sefcik was asked about the
proper placing- of the names of the
PC on pago 2 of the Věstník.
A letter submitted by Sister Frances
Olexa to the PC was read and slie
thanked the members of the past PC,
Brother Mazanec, Brother Mieulka and
Brother S. Vrla for a job well doně,
and especially for their cooperation
during her tenure as past PC chair-
man. She extend.ee! her best wishes for
snecess to the new members of the PC
and heped that all would work in har-
mony and function in n fraternal spirit
in belialf of all the members of our
SPJST Society. A motion was made and
ampreved to send a letter to1 the
•Supremo Lodge requesting that a
plačme be rent to Bister Frances Olexa
for her years of dedícated Service to
the PC.
